UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - Junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara blistered the newly-renovated Chambers Bay Golf Course in Monday's second round of the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational, shooting a 9-under 62 to take a six-shot lead heading into Tuesday's final round.

As a team, the Bruins are in first place at 31-under 537, shooting a 15-under 269 in the morning and a 16-under 268 in the afternoon. UCLA is four shots clear of Fresno State (-27, 541).

Yoshihara, who opened with a 4-under 67 in Monday's morning round, tied single-round school records for score (62) and relation to par (-9) in the afternoon. The only other player to shoot a 62 in UCLA history was Roy Moon at the 2003 TaylorMade Classic, although that was on a par-70 layout. Yoshihara is the third player to record a score of 9-under, joining Cole Madey in 2017 (9-under 63 at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational) and John Merrick in 2003 (9-under 63 at the Pac-10 Championships).

In round one, Yoshihara had six birdies (No. 4, 8, 12, 14, 15 and 17) and two bogeys. He was five shots better in the afternoon, opening his bogey-free round with an eagle on the par-5 1st. Yoshihara added seven more birdies (No. 3, 4, 8, 12, 14, 16 and 18) to put him at 13-under 129 through 36 holes, six shots clear of four players, including sophomore Devon Bling.

Bling, in his final tuneup before next week's Masters, is at 7-under 135. He shot a 2-under 69 in the morning on six birdies (No. 4, 8, 14, 17, 18 and 1) and two double bogeys. In the afternoon, he was three shots better in a 5-under 66. Bling closed strong with an eagle on the par-5 18th and a birdie on the par-5 1st. All told, he had five birdies in his second round (No. 3, 4, 8 and 13) and two bogeys.

Freshman Sean Maruyama is tied for sixth at 6-under 136. He shot a 6-under 65 in round one on seven birdies, including four in a row at one point (No. 7-10). Maruyama also gained strokes on No. 3, 12 and 15 and made just one bogey. In round two, the freshman recorded three birdies (No. 4, 12 and 18) and three bogeys in an even-par 71.

He was bogey-free in his opening-round, 6-under 65, making birdie on three of his first four holes (No. 15, 16 and 18), adding birdies on No. 4, 8 and 10. Murphy shot a 1-over 72 in the afternoon on three birdies (No. 1, 2 and 8), two bogeys and a double.

Madey is tied for 15th (-4, 138) following a pair of 2-under 69s. The senior made five birdies in his opening round (No. 1, 5, 8, 12 and 18) and three bogeys. In the afternoon, Madey had four birdies (No. 1, 5, 8 and 18) and two bogeys.
