NAPA, Calif. - Junior Clare Legaspi was one of just nine golfers to finish under par on day one of the Silverado Showdown at the Silverado Country Club, posting a 1-under 71. As a team, UCLA is tied for second following a 3-over 291 on Sunday, two shots back of first-place San Jose State (+1).
Legaspi is tied for third, one shot behind the individual lead, making four birdies on the second, fifth, 14th and 16th holes and three bogeys. Senior Beth Wu is tied for 10th following an even-par 72. She made five birdies (No. 1, 8, 12, 15 and 17) and five bogeys. Junior Mariel Galdiano and sophomore Vera Markevich are tied for 24th, with each shooting 2-over 74s. Markevich posted a pair of birdies on No. 5 and 17 and four bogeys, while Galdiano closed with a birdie on the 18th hole to go with three bogeys. Freshman Phoebe Yue is tied for 44th, shooting a 4-over 76. She made birdies on her first and final holes and six bogeys.
The Bruins begin round two on Monday at 9:30 a.m. off the first tee in the order of Yue, Markevich, Galdiano, Wu and Legaspi.
