Bruins in Contention for Top Six Spot After Day One in Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich. - After day one of the NCAA East Lansing Regional, the Bruins are well within striking distance of a top six spot and berth into the NCAA Championship, shooting an 8-over 296 and sitting in seventh place. With two rounds still left, UCLA is just two shots out of sixth place and six behind second place.

Senior Beth Wu is tied for third at 2-under 70, two shots back of the individual lead. After a bogey on her opening hole, the 10th, she didn't drop a shot the rest of the way, making birdies on No. 15, 17 and 5, and 14 pars.

Sophomore Patty Tavatanakit shot a 1-under 71 and is tied for sixth. On her first nine on the back side, she made a pair of birdies (No. 13 and 18), two bogeys and a double. Tavatanakit rebounded on the front nine with four birdies in a row (No. 2-5), dropping a shot on the ninth.

Junior Clare Legaspi is tied for 35th (+3, 75), making a pair of birdies (No. 13 and 4) and five bogeys. Junior Mariel Galdiano is tied for 81st (+8, 80), posting a birdie on the fifth, seven bogeys and a double. Freshman Phoebe Yue is tied for 88th (+10, 82), recording six bogeys and two doubles.

Round two of the NCAA East Lansing Regional begins at 8:03 a.m. ET/5:03 a.m. PT for the Bruins off the first tee in the order of Yue, Galdiano, Legaspi, Tavatanakit and Wu.
