No. 14 UCLA Opens Regional Play on Monday

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The 14th-ranked Bruins, the No. 4 seed in the NCAA East Lansing Regional, will begin play at the Forest Akers West Golf Course on Monday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will run through Wednesday at the par-72, 6,387-yard layout.
The starting fivesome for the Bruins will be senior Beth Wu, juniors Mariel Galdiano and Clare Legaspi, sophomore Patty Tavatanakit and freshman Phoebe Yue. UCLA will open the Regional on Monday at 8 a.m. ET/5 a.m. PT off the 10th tee in the order of Yue, Legaspi, Tavatanakit, Wu and Galdiano. Tuesday and Wednesday's play will also begin around 8 a.m. ET/5 a.m. PT off split tees.
Joining the Bruins in the 18-team field are No. 4 Stanford, No. 5 Arizona, No. 12 Kent State, host and No. 20 Michigan State, No. 21 Campbell, No. 28 Illinois, No. 32 Baylor, No. 33 North Carolina, No. 39 Georgia, No. 41 Louisville, No. 45 Augusta, LSU, Indiana, Long Beach State, Xavier, Harvard and IUPUI (Golfstat rankings as of April 30).
A total of 72 teams made the NCAA Regionals at four different sites in East Lansing, Mich., Opelika, Ala., Norman, Okla. and Cle Elum, Wash. The top six teams from each Regional (54 holes of stroke play) will advance to the NCAA Championship at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. (May 17-22).
The Bruins have won an NCAA Regional on eight occasions (2014, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2008, 2005, 2004 and 2002). UCLA is coming off a sixth-place finish at the Pac-12 Women's Golf Championship (April 15-17). The Bruins have two victories on the season at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 24-26) and the Dual Match versus Denver (March 26).
Galdiano leads the Bruins in scoring average at 71.9, having posted two victories (Golfweek Challenge, Stanford Intercollegiate), four Top 10s and eight Top 20s. Coming off a T-11 finish at the Silverado Showdown (April 7-9) and a T-13 showing at Pac-12s in the last two tournaments, Galdiano has nine under-par rounds and four in the 60s. Her best round of the season was a 9-under 62 at Stanford.
Tavatanakit is just behind Galdiano with a 72.0 scoring average, having also recorded two victories (ANNIKA Intercollegiate, Dual Match versus Denver). She has finished inside the Top 10 on five occasions, tying for 10th at the PING/ASU Invitational (March 29-31). Tavatanakit, who tied for 22nd at Pac-12s, has eight under-par rounds, with six of those being in the 60s, shooting a 9-under 63 in the final round of the ANNIKA.
Wu holds a 73.4 scoring average, having also tallied two wins (Dual Match versus Denver, PING/ASU Invitational). Her victory at ASU saw her finish at 7-under 209 thanks to a 6-under 66 and a 4-under 68 in her final two rounds. Wu has three Top 10s and seven Top 20s this season, posting eight under-par rounds. Half of those have been in the 60s. She tied for 18th at Pac-12s.
Legaspi has a 74.0 scoring average, recording three Top 10s and five Top 20s. Her final round at Pac-12s, where she tied for 30th, saw her shoot a 1-under 70, which was her sixth under-par round of the season. Legaspi has two rounds in the 60s (68 at Golfweek, 67 at Stanford).
Yue was 40th at Pac-12s and has a pair of Top 10s. Her best tournament of the season came at the Bruin Wave Invitational (Feb. 25-26), where she tied for third.
