EAST LANSING, Mich. - Following a lengthy weather delay to start the day, sophomore Patty Tavatanakit recorded a 6-under 66 and is the leader after 36 holes at the NCAA East Lansing Regional. The Bruins shot the second-best round at the Forest Akers West Golf Course on Tuesday, firing a 3-under 285.

After 36 holes, UCLA is at 5-over 581 and sitting in third place. While the Bruins are eight shots back of first-place Kent State (-3, 573) and seven behind second-place Arizona (-2, 574), more importantly they are 11 shots ahead of Indiana and Illinois (+16, 592), which are tied for fifth (Stanford, 4th, +12, 588). The top six teams after play on Wednesday will advance to the NCAA Championship (May 17-22) in Fayetteville, Ark.

With a nearly seven-hour delay due to inclement weather, golfers had a shotgun start in foursomes. But the conditions didn't affect Tavatanakit, who leads by four shots heading into Wednesday's final round. Her 66 puts her at 7-under 137 after two rounds. On Tuesday, she made an eagle on the par-5 13th, five birdies (No. 6, 11, 14, 16 and 17) and one bogey. Tavatanakit is looking to win her second NCAA Regional in a row after she posted a one-shot victory at the San Francisco Regional last season.

Junior Clare Legaspi was five shots better on Tuesday after posting a 2-under 70. She is tied for 13th (+1, 145). Legaspi made three birdies (No. 10, 17 and 5) and one bogey.

Senior Beth Wu is also tied for 13th (+1, 145), shooting a 3-over 75 in her second round on three birdies (No. 5, 16 and 17), four bogeys and a double. Junior Mariel Galdiano improved by six strokes on Tuesday following a 2-over 74. She made three birdies (No. 7, 11 and 14), one bogey and two doubles and is tied for 63rd (+10, 154). Freshman Phoebe Yue is tied for 88th (+18, 162), recording an 8-over 80 on two birdies (No. 9 and 13), five bogeys, a double and a triple bogey.

The final round for the Bruins will begin on Wednesday at 10:04 a.m. ET/7:04 a.m. PT off the first tee in the order of Yue, Galdiano, Legaspi, Wu and Tavatanakit.
