UCLA returns its top two players in kills per set from last year in juniors Mac May and Jenny Mosser. May was a VolleyballMag.com Honorable Mention All-American, AVCA All-Pacific South Region Honorable Mention and All-Pac-12 Conference First Team selection after leading the team with 3.69 kps and 34 service aces. She also led the Bruins with eight double-doubles and 21 double-figure kills matches, surpassing the 20-kill mark in three contests. May was selected to the 2019 Pac-12 All-Preseason Team.

Fresh off winning her second-straight NCAA title on the beach, senior Savvy Simo will use some of her hitting talents on the sand to move from the back-row to a six-rotation player. Simo has recorded 20 kills in her three years, with eight of them coming in an NCAA Second Round match in 2017 against Cal Poly. Simo has 726 career digs, ranking second on the team with 3.00 dps last season.
Adding to the depth at the outside hitting position will be redshirt sophomore Alexis Light, sophomore Hawley Harrer and redshirt freshman Lexi Hadrych. Light averaged 1.72 kills and 0.69 digs in 22 matches and 68 sets a year ago, posting three double-figure kills contests. Harrer, who can also play the setter position, appeared in 14 matches and 36 sets as a freshman, recording 1.28 kills and 0.78 digs per set. Hadrych redshirted in 2018 after earning AVCA/Under Armour Second Team All-American honors in her final year at Vista Murrieta High School.
A quartet of players will battle for the two middle blocker spots, redshirt sophomores Emily Ryan and Sabrina Smith, redshirt freshman Tristin Savage and freshman Anna Dodson. Ryan played in 11 of the Bruins' last 12 sets of the 2018 campaign, registering 25 kills, a .340 hitting percentage, nine blocks and five aces. Smith redshirted in 2018 after playing in six matches and 16 sets in 2017, totaling 15 kills and 14 blocks as a freshman. Savage also sat out last season after spending four years at Dallas High School in Oregon, where she was All-League twice. Dodson prepped at Rocky Mountain High School as a junior and senior, and she was recognized as the Front Range Conference Player of the Year and a No. 47 PrepVolleyball Senior Ace.
The setting duties will fall at the hands of senior transfer Cali Thompson, sophomore Devon Chang and Harrer. Chang played in 14 matches and 40 sets as a freshman, averaging 8.75 assists and 2.70 digs per set. She notched five double-doubles, which ranked third on the team. Thompson comes to Westwood after spending the last three seasons at the University of Portland. She ranks fourth in program history in assists and 10th in aces, as she didn't miss a set in her three-year career.
The fivesome battling for playing time in the back-row will be sophomores Sawyer Aigner-Swesey, Kelli Barry, Kelsey Campeau and Kaitlin Kao and freshman Mari Hinkle. Aigner-Swesey averaged 1.30 dps in 18 matches and 50 sets in 2018, adding two service aces.
