UCLA HEADS TO NORTHRIDGE TO FACE CSUN ON SUNDAY NIGHT
After a pair of games at home, No. 13 UCLA opens a three-game road swing on Sunday night by heading to the San Fernando Valley to take on CSUN at 6:00 p.m. The contest will be streamed on Big West TV. The Bruins are in a stretch that sees them play five of their first seven games of the year away from home.

IN THE RANKINGS
This week, UCLA cracked the top-25 for the first time in 2019. The Bruins are ranked as high as No. 13 (TopDrawerSoccer) and also appeared in the polls for Soccer America (No. 14) and College Soccer News (No. 22). The United Soccer Coaches have the Bruins ranked No. 7 in the Far West Region. CSUN is ranked No. 27 in the College Soccer News rankings, and received the most votes of any team outside the top-25 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll. CSUN is No. 4 in the Far West Coaches poll.

WEEK IN REVIEW
UCLA went 1-1-0 last week against a pair of top-10 opponents, knocking off then-No. 1 Maryland on Friday, Sept. 6 before suffering a 5-1 defeat at the hands of No. 6 Georgetown on Monday evening.

TOUGH TESTS
The Bruins are coming off a stretch that saw them play three straight games against opponents ranked inside the top-10, tackling No. 2 Indiana on Sept. 2 before facing Maryland and Georgetown at home. The three-game span represented:
  • First time playing a ranked team in three straight games since Oct. 16-23, 2014 (No. 1 Washington, No. 17 Oregon State No. 2 Washington
  • First time playing top-10 teams in three straight games since Nov. 19-Dec. 2, 2006 (No. 9 Clemson, No. 1 Duke, No. 3 Virginia - all in the NCAA Tournament)

MILAN ILOSKI RECORDS HAT TRICK IN WIN OVER MARYLAND
Junior forward Milan Iloski scored a career-high three goals to power UCLA to a 3-2 win over Maryland last Friday night. Notes on the win:
  • First hat trick by a Bruin since Chandler Hoffman on Sept. 16, 2011 (nearly eight years)
  • First UCLA win over a top-ranked team since beating Akron 6-1 on Sept. 5, 2016
  • First UCLA win over a defending national champion since beating Indiana 1-0 on Sept. 1, 2013
  • First career multi-goal game for Iloski
  • First goal was assisted by his brother, Eric
  • First time that Eric has assisted on a Milan goal, and second time that Eric/Milan have both recorded a point on the same goal (Milan and elder brother Brian assisted on an Eric goal in a game against San Diego State on Oct. 15, 2017)

ILOSKI PICKS UP SLEW OF NATIONAL, LOCAL AWARDS AFTER HAT TRICK
Milan Iloski picked up plenty of recognition after his offensive outburst against the Terrapins. Earlier this week, he was named the TopDrawerSoccer National Player of the Week, College Soccer News National Player of the Week, Pac-12 Player of the Week, and UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week. The Escondido, Calif. native was also named to the Team of the Week by both TopDrawer and College Soccer News. UCLA has had both of the league's player of the week honors so far in 2019 (Justin Garces).

ILOSKIS IN A GROVE
One of the Iloski brothers - forward Milan or midfielder Eric - has recorded at least one point in all six of UCLA's games so far this year (preseason included). Milan has scored in games against Westmont, Northwestern, Georgetown, and Maryland while recording an assist against Indiana. Eric scored the lone goal against Omaha in the preseason and earned an assist on Milan's first goal against the Terps.

POWELL TABBED TO PRESEASON ALL-PAC-12 TEAM
Redshirt senior midfielder/defender Matthew Powell was named to the 2019 Preseason All-Pac-12 Team ahead of the new season. Powell was one of just three defenders to make the conference's preseason Best XI. The Castro Valley, Calif. native was an All-Pac-12 second team choice in 2018 after receiving an all-conference honorable mention as a sophomore in 2017. A mainstay of the defensive corps last year, Powell was one of just three Bruins to start all 19 of the team's games. Spending time at both center back and holding mid, Powell played the full 90 in all but three games and ended the year with 1,670 minutes of action, third-most on the team.

LAST TIME OUT VS. CSUN
In the last matchup between the two teams (Sept. 16, 2018), CSUN edged UCLA 2-1 at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak against the Matadors. Wolgang Prentice and Daniel Trejo scored in the second-half, neutralizing a first half PK conversion from Matt Hundley. UCLA had a PK in the 77th minute that could have equalized the game, but failed to capitalize on the chance.

SERIES VS. CSUN
UCLA is 17-3-3 all-time against CSUN, including a 5-2-0 mark over the last 10 years. The Bruins haven't lost at Northridge since 2007, and have never lost consecutive games to the Matadors. UCLA is 8-1-1 all-time at CSUN.

BRUINS IN RED, WHITE, AND BLUE
Former UCLA players Reggie Cannon and Jackson Yueill as well as current volunteer assistant coach Walker Zimmerman were all named to the 26-man roster for the U.S. Men's National Team in late August. Zimmerman and Cannon both started in the USMNT's battle against Mexico on Sept. 6, while Yueill appeared as a substitute. Then in the US's battle against Uruguay on Sept. 10, both Cannon and Yueill drew starts. Cannon has accrued eight caps with the senior team, including a start at right back in the 2019 Gold Cup final against Mexico. Yueill has three caps, all coming in 2019. Zimmerman, an LAFC defender, has scored twice over 11 career games with Team USA.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, BRUINS
The Bruins will have 16 of 18 regular season games appear on TV this season, including all 10 home games. Pac-12 Networks will provide live television coverage of every regular season game at Wallis Annenberg Stadium in addition to four UCLA road games.

HOME COOKING
Starting on Sept. 26, UCLA will play a season-high eight consecutive games at home. That is the longest homestand for the program since at least 1980 (home-away designations are unavailable prior to 1980). Once that stretch begins, the Bruins don't play another road game until they head to Berkeley for a matchup against Cal on Halloween.

NEWEST BRUINS
The 2019 UCLA squad features 10 newcomers. That contingent includes a trio of Division I transfers in midfielders Jose Sosa (Pacific) and Marcony Pimentel (Pitt) as well as defender Ben Reveno (UC Irvine). Defender Ruben Soria (Santa Monica College) joins the Bruins from the junior college ranks, while Jefferson Alade (Vancouver Whitecaps) represents the MLS Academy system. Other newcomers include Cyprus-native Constantinos Michaelides (AEL Limassol), Riley Ferch (South Florida Football Academy), Luke Bone (Placer United), Ollie de Visser (Silicon Valley Academy), and Eric Pearce (San Francisco Glens).

SUNDQUIST SETTING IT UP
Sophomore midfielder Cody Sundquist has had a nice start to the 2019 in the distribution department, as he's accrued a team-high three assists so far. All of his helpers have come on Milan Iloski scores. Sundquist ranks 11th nationally in total assists. In just four games, he's already established a new career-high in points (previously 2).

MONDAY DEBUTS
A trio of Bruins made their Division I debuts in Monday's game against Georgetown. Redshirt sophomore goalie Cameron Douglas played 24:58 minutes in net and made three saves. His earned his first two career saves the hard way, making a point-blank stop in the 77th minute before recovering to make a lunging foot-save of a second-chance shot. Freshman forward Ollie de Visser played 22 minutes in his first-ever college game while redshirt junior Carlos Rincon, a Santa Monica College transfer,  played 13 minutes in his first Division I action.

GARCES MAKING STOPS
UCLA sophomore keeper Justin Garces enters the weekend with the Pac-12 lead in saves at 17. The Miami, Fla. native - who entered the year with a single-game career-high of fives saves - has made four or more stops in three of UCLA's four games this year, including a career-high seven in the season-opener against Northwestern. He was the Pac-12 Player of the Week after making 11 saves over two games in the IU/Adidas Credit Union Classic.

NICE TO MEET YOU
Eight of UCLA's 10 newcomers have made their Bruin debuts so far. Pimentel grabbed a goal against Indiana, while Ferch earned the primary assist on the game-winning goal against Northwestern. Michaelides and Reveno have both started all four games, while Soria has made three starts. Alade, Bone, and de Visser have appeared as substitutes.

UCLA100
UCLA will celebrate its first 100 years with a year-long university-wide Centennial Celebration. UCLA Athletics has several Centennial Celebration plans and giveaways in store for designated home events, including a set of 13 Centennial Pins highlighting each sport, as well as a souvenir mosaic poster that features personal photos submitted by UCLA fans. UCLA men's soccer will hold its Centennial game on Sept. 26 in a matchup against UC Irvine.

JEFFERSON ALADE INCLUDED ON TOP DRAWER'S PRESEASON FRESHMAN BEST XI
UCLA freshman forward Jefferson Alade was tabbed to the TopDrawerSoccer Preseason Freshman Best XI before the start of the new season. He was one of just three forwards listed among the XI. A product of the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy, Alade scored 36 goals over 83 career games with the club. He saw his productivity go up as he got older, culminating in a career-high 15 scores last year in 31 games. He was a three-star recruit per TopDrawer.

PRESEASON IN BRIEF
UCLA was a combined 2-0-0 in preseason play, posting shutout wins over NAIA-member Westmont and Omaha. The Bruins began exhibition action with a 3-0 home decision over Montecito, Calif.-based Westmont. Marcony Pimentel opened the scoring in the first half, followed by a second-half PK conversion from Milan Iloski and a late third tally from Jefferson Alade. Eric Iloski potted the lone goal in a 1-0 road win at Omaha. The Bruins posted a 4-0 aggregate scoreline in the two preseason scrimmages.

2018 IN REVIEW
The Bruins posted a 10-9-0 overall record last year, qualifying for the 2018 NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid. The Bruins were eliminated in the first round in a road contest at Portland. The Bruins were 5-5-0 in Pac-12 play, good for fourth place in the conference. UCLA was 4-1-0 at one point in conference action, but closed the season by losing four of five against league foes. Top scorers included Matt Hundley (17 points), Mohammed Kamara (11), and Milan Iloski (8), who missed the early part of the season due to an emergency appendectomy. The Bruins had two players selected in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, including No. 1 overall pick Frankie Amaya, who went to FC Cincinnati. Midfielder Anderson Asiedu was selected 24th overall by Atlanta.
