CLEARWATER, Fla. - Sophomore Megan Faraimo took a perfect game into the fifth inning, finishing with a two-hit shutout and six strikeouts, while graduate student Jenavee Peres and junior Briana Perez each hit solo home runs, as the second-ranked Bruins defeated No. 9 Alabama, 7-0, on Friday at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
Faraimo, who improved to 4-0 on the season, retired the first 12 batters of the game before the Crimson Tide (4-4) picked up their first baserunner on an error. She would end up losing the no-hitter in the sixth. Faraimoย had exactly one strikeout in every inning but the second.
The Bruins (7-0) had seven hits from six different players, as Peres recorded a pair of hits.
UCLA scored twice on just one hit in the bottom of the first. With one out, Perez and redshirt junior Aaliyah Jordan drew walks and both moved up a base on a wild pitch. Freshman Maya Brady followed with a hard smash off the third-base bag and into left field for a hit, as Perez scored the game's first run. With Jordan at third, a passed ball on the final pitch of a walk to junior Delanie Wiszย made the score 2-0.
The Bruins scored two more times with no hits in the second. Sophomore Kelli Godin walked and stole second, junior Kinsley Washington was hit by a pitch and Perez walked to load the bases. A fielder's choice RBI grounder off the bat of Jordan scored Godin to make it 3-0, while a Brady RBI grounder plated Washington to bring the lead to 4-0.
In the fourth, Perez led off with a homer to right center, her first of the season, to make it 5-0. Peres added in on the fun an inning later with a leadoff solo shot to left, her first homer as a Bruin, to increase the lead to 6-0. Two outs later, Washington singled up the middle, moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a passed ball to put UCLA up by seven.
The Bruins play twice on Saturday at the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational, facing Liberty at 8:30 a.m. PT/11:30 a.m. ET (ESPN3/WatchESPN App) and No. 15 Georgia at 1 p.m. PT/4 p.m. ET (ESPNU).
