PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. - Freshman Emma Spitz is tied for fifth after 18 holes at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, as the Bruins are tied for seventh as a team. UCLA shot a 9-over 293 on Sunday at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Spitz shot a 1-under 70 in her opening round, making a pair of birdies on No. 6 and 8 and one bogey, and is four shots back of the overall lead.
Freshman Emilie Paltrinieri is tied for 19th (+2, 73), making three birdies on No. 14, 1 and 6 and five bogeys. Senior Mariel Galdiano is tied for 29th (+3, 74), posting a birdie on the third, two bogeys and a double. Sophomore Phoebe Yue and freshman Annabel Wilson are tied for 49th (+5, 76). Yue tallied three birdies (No. 13, 15 and 1), six bogeys and a double. Wilson made two birdies (No. 11 and 1), three bogeys and two doubles. Freshman Yuki Yoshihara, playing as an individual, shot a 12-over 83 (10 bogeys, one double).
Round two will get underway after the first round concludes, with three groups finishing their final few holes at 9 a.m. on Monday.
