HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - It should be an exciting Sunday finish at the Long Cove Club, as three Bruin freshmen are within two shots of the lead, while UCLA is five shots back after 36 holes at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
The Bruins shot a 4-over 288 as a team on Saturday to match first-place Wake Forest's second-round total. UCLA is at 12-over 580 for two rounds, while Wake Forest is at 7-over 575, with the Bruins seven clear of third-place Baylor.
Freshmen Emilie Paltrinieri and Emma Spitz are both tied for second at 1-over 143 following rounds of 1-over 72. Paltrinieri made a pair of birdies on No. 2 and 4 and three bogeys. Spitz made an eagle on the par-4 5th, adding two birdies on No. 10 and 12, three bogeys and a double. The duo are one shot back of Wake Forest's Emilia Migliaccio (E, 142).
Freshman Annabel Wilson shot a 2-under 69 on Saturday, six shots better than her first-round total, to vault into a tie for seventh at 2-over 144. She recorded six birdies on No. 2, 8, 9, 10, 13 and 15, two bogeys and a double. Senior Mariel Galdiano made three birdies in a row on holes No. 13 through 15 to go with five bogeys and a double in a 4-over 75. She is tied for 32nd (+8, 150). Senior Clare Legaspi (+10, 152) is tied for 45th after a 5-over 76. She made two birdies on No. 15 and 18, five bogeys and a double.
The Bruins' final round starts at 9:40 a.m. ET/6:40 a.m. PT off the first tee in the order of Legaspi, Galdiano, Wilson, Paltrinieri and Spitz.
