HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Bruins are at the Long Cove Club this weekend for the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played from Friday through Sunday at the par-71, 6,266-yard layout.
The starting fivesome for UCLA will be seniors Mariel Galdiano and Clare Legaspi and freshmen Emilie Paltrinieri, Emma Spitz and Annabel Wilson. Friday and Saturday's tee times will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET/5:30 a.m. PT and Sunday's tee times will start at 8 a.m. ET/5 a.m. PT.
Joining the 11th-ranked Bruins and host and ninth-ranked South Carolina in the stacked 17-team field are No. 1 Texas, No. 3 Duke, No. 7 Wake Forest, No. 13 LSU, No. 14 Alabama, No. 17 Arkansas, No. 19 Baylor, No. 20 Auburn, No. 21 Vanderbilt, No. 26 Florida State, No. 28 Georgia, No. 30 North Carolina, No. 32 Furman, No. 34 Virginia and No. 39 Northwestern.
The Bruins are coming off a second-place finish at the Bruin Wave Invitational (Feb. 23-24, +16, 880). It was the fifth Top 5 showing of the season in seven events for UCLA, as it was second at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview (Nov. 4-6, -17, 859), tied for second at the Tri-Match in the Desert (Jan. 26, E, 288), third at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 23-25, -5, 859) and fourth at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge (Feb. 9-11, +6, 858).
Spitz posted her first collegiate victory at the Bruin Wave, coming back from six shots down to share medalist honors following a final-round, 3-under 69. She finished at 5-under 211. Spitz was the top Bruin in each of the first three tournaments and has five Top 10s and six Top 20s in her seven events. She was third at Golfweek (-8, 208), fourth at the Tri-Match (-1, 71), tied for seventh at both Nanea (-4, 215) and the Regional Challenge (-2, 211) and tied for 11th at the Stanford Intercollegiate (Oct. 11-13, -1, 212). Of Spitz's 19 rounds, 11 have been under par and six have been in the 60s.
Paltrinieri is coming off a fantastic February where she was third at the Bruin Wave (-2, 214) and fourth at the Northrop Grumman (-4, 209). She was under par in three of her six rounds. Paltrinieri has four Top 20s, as she tied for 12th at the Tri-Match (+2, 74) and tied for 18th at the Golfweek Challenge (+1, 217).
Wilson was seventh at the Bruin Wave (+4, 220), shooting a 1-under 71 in the second round. It was one of her three under-par rounds this season, with the seventh-place showing her second Top 10 (T-9 at the Tri-Match, +1, 73). Galdiano also has two Top 10s on the year, tying for second at Nanea (-7, 212) and tying for fifth at the Tri-Match (E, 72). She has three under-par rounds. Legaspi has been under par in the first round in three of her four tournaments, tying for second at the Tri-Match (-2, 70).
