The Week In Reviewย ย  ย
UCLA is coming off a 1-2 weekend at Cal Poly, with the Bruins taking the middle game of the three-game set. UCLA and Cal Poly exchanged one-run wins in the first two games before the Mustangs took the series with a 8-5 win on Sunday.ย
  • Cal Poly opened the series with a 5-4 victory on Friday, scoring the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and holding on in the ninth. UCLA led 3-0 after three innings in the contest, but the Mustangs scored five of the game's final six runs, going ahead with two runs in the sixth before UCLA briefly tied it 4-4 in the eighth. Four separate Bruins had multiple hits in the game, including JT Schwartz who drove in runs in the first and third innings for UCLA.ย
  • The Bruins evened the series with a 13-12 win in what was a wild, four-hour, 10-minute game on Saturday. UCLA fell behind early 5-0, proceeded to score 12 unanswered runs, and then held off a late Mustang charge to preserve the win. Every starter had a hit for UCLA, including Mikey Perez (two HRs, first Bruin with multiple homers in a game since May 19, 2019) and Noah Cardenas (2-5, career-high five RBIs). Cal Poly got the game-tying run into scoring position in the bottom of the ninth, but Sean Mullen held them off for his second save of the year.ย
  • UCLA dropped the rubber match, 8-5, despite outhitting the hosts. Cal Poly went ahead with multi-run rallies in each of the first two innings. UCLA was able to get the game-tying run to the plate in the ninth inning after having the first three batters of the frame reach, but Cal Poly limited the damage to just one run.ย
  • The team with fewer hits won all three games of the series in San Luis Obispo.ย
  • UCLA did not play a midweek this week due to finals. It was the first week without a Tuesday game for UCLA this year.ย
