LOS ANGELES - Senior Bubba Nickles, junior Kinsley Washington and freshman Maya Brady each had two-hit games, while sophomore Megan Faraimo struck out 12 in a complete-game, three-hitter, as the second-ranked Bruins defeated UC San Diego 7-1 on Tuesday at Easton Stadium.
Faraimo (7-1) allowed an unearned run and walked nobody in her seven innings. She struck out the side in the second and the seventh and two each in the first and the third, adding 1-2-3 frames in the first, second, third, fifth and seventh. UCLA (11-1) had 10 hits from seven different players.
For the 10th time in 12 games, and fifth in a row, the Bruins scored in their first at-bat. Nickles led off with a double, and one out later, walks to junior Aaliyah Jordan and senior Rachel Garcia loaded the bases. After Nickles was forced at home for the second out of the inning, Brady singled to drive in Jordan and Garcia to make it 2-0.
The Bruins added three more in the second. Washington led off with a double, sophomore Kelli Godin singled and stole second and both came home on a Nickles single to increase the lead to 4-0. Junior Briana Perez followed with a double and a Jordan sacrifice fly scored Nickles to make it 5-0.
UC San Diego (1-4) scored an unearned run on two singles and an error in the fourth, but the Bruins padded their lead with two in the fifth. Garcia led off with a walk, and was pinch-run for by freshman Taylor Edwards, who stole second and scored on an RBI single by junior Delanie Wisz to make it 6-1. Freshman Grace Guzman came in to run for Wisz, and she stole second, moved to third on a hit by Brady and scored on a Washington ground out to bring the lead to 7-1.
