Bruins Continue Outdoor Season at Stanford Invitational

LOS ANGELES โ The Bruins are set to continue their 2021 outdoor season at the Stanford Invitational, a two-day meet kicking off on Friday, April 2. The events will take place at Cobb Track and Angell Field on the campus of Stanford University.

MEET INFORMATION โ Stanford Invitational
The Bruins are set to square off against a strong slate of opponents in Palo Alto. UCLA's competitors include the host Cardinal and fellow Pac-12 opponents California and USC. The Trojan women checked in at No. 4 on the most recent United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rankings. Cal thrower Anna Purchase was named the USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week on Mar. 9 following a hammer throw performance that saw her clear 66.52m (218-3). She is entered in Saturday's hammer competition.

PAC-12 ATHLETES OF THE WEEK โ Alyssa Wilson, Shae Anderson
Alyssa Wilson was named Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week and Shae Anderson was named Pac-12 Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the Conference office announced Wednesday. Wilson notched six victories in her first week of outdoor competition, sweeping the throws at the Jim Bush Legends Invitational (Mar. 24) and the Bob Larsen Track Meet (Mar. 27). ย Her victory in the hammer at Bob Larsen resulted from her toss of 66.50m (218-02), the sixth-best mark in the nation this year. Anderson made her UCLA outdoor debut in style, flying to victories in the 400m and 200m at Bob Larsen. She opened her day with an historic performance in the 400m, clocking a lifetime-best time of 51.84 to move into sixth place on UCLA's all-time outdoor performance list in the event. The Norco, Calif., native later earned the double with a victory in the 200m, cruising to the win with a career-best time of 23.32.

Junior sprinter Shae Andersonย etched her name in the UCLA outdoor record books on Saturday at the Bob Larsen Track Meet, headlining a home meet that saw the Bruins notch 13 event victories on the day. Anderson continue her career day with a victory in the 200m, breezing to a lifetime-best time of 23.32 for the win. Sophomore Maddy Doane crossed in second with a time of 23.88, ducking under 24 seconds for the first time in her career. Jacob Wilson got the day's action started with a victory in the men's hammer throw, clearing 59.25m (194-4) for the victory. Alyssa Wilson notched the win on the women's side highlighting a strong series of throws with a best of 66.50m (281-2) for her first victory of the day.

Anteater Distance Carnival (Mar. 25)
Jett Charvet was the first competitor for the Bruins in Irvine, taking the win in the men's 800m with a time of 1:55.32. He finished almost a full second clear of runner-up Miles Duncan (1:56.29) from Irvine. Senior Paige Carter was UCLA's top finisher in the women's 1500m, clocking a career-best time of 4:33.30 for third place overall. Munir Kabbara notched a personal-best time of 3:49.71 in the men's 1500m competition for the event victory. Freshman Anthony Stone was just behind at 3:50.00, taking second place on the day.

Christina Chenault finished her first heptathlon of the 2021 season at the Aztec Invitational, compiling 5059 points for second place overall. Chenault notched multi victories in the shot put (38-01-50), 200m (25.42), and 800m (2:18.70). Her single-event high for points was 849 in the 200m.

Drake Stadium played host to outdoor competition for the first time in nearly two years, as the Jim Bush Legends Invitational saw the Bruins earn 13 event victories on the day. Alyssa Wilson made her 2021 debut in style, earning victories in the shot put (15.71m, 51-07.25), discus (51.77m, 169-10), and hammer (63.99m, 209-11) to kick off her campaign. The UCLA men went 1-2-4 in the 400m, withย Myles Misener-Daleyย picking up the win with a time of 47.22.ย Cameron Reynoldsย (47.53) andย Chase Wellsย finished in third and fourth, respectively.ย Ismail Turnerย dominated the men's 200m, clocking a wind-aided time of 20.91 to take the win.ย
