January 31, 2023 | Women's Golf

LOS ANGELES – The No. 22 UCLA women's golf team will compete against No. 21 USC in a pair of match play rounds in the Battle for the Bell on Feb. 1 and 2. The Bruins and Trojans will square off at Sherwood Country Club on Wednesday and Rolling Hills Country Club on Thursday.

The Bruins at a Glance
Sophomore Caroline Canales leads UCLA with a 71.1 scoring average and is tied for the team lead with five total under par rounds following her first collegiate victory at The Match in the Desert last week. She is the only Bruin to have a counting round in every round UCLA has played this season (11 rounds).

In Campos' last five rounds, she has shot even par three times and even par once. Campos is coming off her lowest score of the season with a 4-under 68 at The Match in the Desert. She is second on the team with a 71.75 scoring average.

Last Time Out
The Bruins claimed their first victory of the season last week at The Match in the Desert at Superstition Mountain Golf Club in Gold Canyon, Ariz. UCLA (-12, 276) defeated Arizona State by one stroke. Canales shot the best round of her collegiate career to lead the Bruins with a 7-under 65 and win her first medal.

The Bruins' 12-under performance is tied for the sixth-best score in relation to par in program history. The last time UCLA shot 12-under or better in a single round was in Fall 2018 when it scorched Red Sky Ranch Golf Club in the third round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge for a 17-under 271. Campos and Alessia Nobilio also finished within the top 10 at T-6th and T-8th, respectively. Campos tied her previous career low of 68 and Nobilio notched her second sub-70 score of the season with a 3-under 69.
