October 20, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
LOS ANGELES โ Audrey Pak recorded a career-high four kills,ย 33 assists and three aces to lead the UCLA women's volleyball team to a three-set win against Washington at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Friday night.
ย
Set scores were 25-18, 25-16 and 38-36.
ย
The Bruins (11-8, 3-6) staved off nine Husky set points in a thrilling third frame which UCLA won in extra points, 38-36. The 38 points were UCLA's most ever in a set in program history. That stretch of extra points featured seven service errors between the two squads. UCLA capitalized on its fifth match point which resulted in a setting error by Washington's Kierstyn Barton.
ย
What brought match point to the line was an Anna Dodson kill assisted by Pak. Dodson had just one kill under her belt up until set three, but with the Bruins trailing 15-10 in the third, Pak relied on the 6-foot, 4-inch middle blocker for back-to-back kills. Dodson got up for the second kill and slammed it home right at the 10-foot line.
ย
Iman Ndiaye led the team with 14 kills and a .481 hitting percentage, tying her season-high number of kills in a three-set match. Outside hitter Cheridyn Leverette recorded 13 kills and a career-high .462 hitting percentage. The attacking duo had just one error apiece.
ย
The Huskies (13-7, 4-5) were plagued by 17 service errors and 18 attacking errors.
ย

Ndiaye put the set out of reach with a service ace out of the timeout. Washington tallied six of its service errors in the first set.
ย
The second set was also smooth sailing for UCLA. A 6-0 scoring run with three kills from Leverette and another by Ndiaye pushed the Bruins out to a 17-8 lead. Pak had double-digit assists in the second set, and the Bruins continued to hit accurately with a percentage of .333.
ย
Washington jumped to a 4-0 lead to open set three and had UCLA trailing throughout the first half of the frame. After Pak found Dodson for back-to-back kills, a swing by Grayce Olson found the floor and a Husky attack error knotted the set, 15-15.
ย
The set was defined by six service errors on both sides in extra points, and Washington scored more points in the third set than the first two combined. In total, there were 18 ties between UCLA and Washington.
ย
Ndiaye was 7-for-14 on her attacks in the third set. Desiree Becker came up with her first kill of the match at the 29-28 mark to continue the frame after the Huskies had brought set point to the line.
