Bruins Drop Tuesday Contest at Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton put together three crooked numbers early en route to a 15-5 over UCLA on Tuesday night at Goodwin Field.
The Bruins (16-6) responded with three runs in the top of the second after Cal State Fullerton (12-8) had opened the game's scoring with a four-run first, but the hosts would go on to pull away with another nine runs over the third and fourth frames.
UCLA received notable offensive performances from graduate third baseman Knox Loposer (2-4, two doubles), sophomore center fielder Malakhi Knight (2-4, double, two RBIs), and sophomore first baseman Jack Holman (solo homer).
Loposer and Knight were at the center of UCLA's second-inning rally. Loposer got the Bruins on the board, looping an 0-2 pitch into the left field corner for an RBI double that plated senior catcher Darius Perry. The Bruins kept rallying after Loposer's breakthrough knock, with Knight and Yates contributing RBI singles to get the Bruins within one.
Cal State Fullerton was led by first baseman Caden Connor (4-6, three RBIs), DH Carter White (3-4, three runs), and catcher Cole Urman (2-4, three runs). Five separate Titan batters drove in multiple runs.
Freshman lefty Ben Jacobs drew the start for UCLA, his first at the NCAA level. The Huntington Beach, Calif. native struck out three, but had to deal with some back luck – the four hits against him in that big first inning were two pop-ups and two bunts – over his two innings of work.
The Bruins ultimately used six pitchers on the day. Sophomore righty Luke Jewett struck out the side in the eighth.
UCLA returns to action with a three-game series at Washington State, starting on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. PT. The entire series will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
