Freshmen Do the Heavy Lifting; Back-to-Back Sweeps
Following a sweep of then-No. 6 Stanford two weeks ago, UCLA broke out the brooms once more to take all three games against Oregon State last weekend. The Bruins out-scored the Beavers 23-2 in the series and homered twice in each game. Freshmen Jordan Woolery (3 HR, 8 RBI) and Megan Grant (1 HR, 5 RBI) accounted for 13 of UCLA's runs driven in.
Game 1 (W, 6-2): Woolery recorded the first multi-homer game of her career with a 2-run shot in the third inning and three-run shot in the fourth inning for a total of five RBI to lead UCLA to a game one victory over Oregon State. It was the fourth multi-homer game by a Bruin so far this season and the first by someone other than Maya Brady.
Game 2 (W, 11-0): It was Grant's turn to shine in game two, knocking in five runs in a 2-for-2 effort to help the Bruins to their 12th mercy-rule win of the season. Three of Grant's RBI came on her eighth home run of the year, a towering shot to right field that landed into the upper canopy of Easton Stadium's right-field trees. Eight of the nine in UCLA's starting lineup recorded a base hit in the game.
Game 3 (W, 6-0): Once again, Woolery cashed in with runners on base, driving in three runs with her eighth homer of the year coming in the first inning. Maya Brady also homered in the contest for her 12th longball of the season.

Megantron
Faraimo, who has hauled in four Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week awards this season, is currently riding a 26.0 scoreless innings streak dating back to her relief appearance in game two at Oregon on March 26. Over her last five appearances, Faraimo sports a 5-0 record with 34 strikeouts and has allowed just 13 hits (all singles) over 24.2 scoreless innings.
ย
The Oceanside, Calif. native is on the precipice of the second 20-win campaign of her career, achieving the feat for the first time last season. Faraimo picked up her 20th win of 2022 in game 51 on May 14 in the Bruins' final Pac-12 series of the regular season. She can record her 20th win of 2023 a full month earlier than last season in game one versus Arizona this week.
ย
Faraimo's 19 wins rank first in the Pac-12 and are tied for the most among all Power 5 conference pitchers. Her 163 strikeouts paces the conference, and with a minimum of 60 innings pitched, Faraimo also leads the Pac-12 with a 1.10 earned run average.

The last time a Bruin pitcher won 30 games in a single season was Ally Carda in (2012-15) in 2015 (32-8).
ย
Ooh, That's a Fresh Note
Megan Grant's 42 runs batted in and Jordan Woolery's 39 have made UCLA freshman class history. They are the only true freshmen in Bruins' history to each have recorded at least 37+ RBI in a single season. Their 81 combined RBI are tied for the second most by a freshman duo in a single season. The 81 RBI also ranks second among freshman duos this season, trailing only Indiana's Taryn Kern and Avery Parker who have totaled 83.
ย
Since softball was adopted by the NCAA, only four freshmen have led UCLA in runs batted in for a single season: Stephany LaRosa (2012, 61 RBI), Stacey Nuveman in (1997, 71 RBI), Janice Parks (1986, 19 RBI) and Chris Olivie (1985, 12 RBI).
ย
Ooh, That's Another Fresh Note
Grant (42 RBI) and Woolery (39 RBI) rank second and fourth, respectively, among all freshmen in the nation in runs batted in. Including Maya Brady's 41 RBI this season, the trio of UCLA sluggers ranks second, third and fourth in the Pac-12 in RBI entering week 10 of the 2023 season.

ย
Faraimo Last Week
In game one of UCLA's sweep of Oregon State, Faraimo turned in 6.1 shutout innings in her fifth double-digit strikeout outing of the year and the 36th of her career. Faraimo held the Beavers' bats to just two hits over 5.0 innings in game three.

ย
Player of the Year Watch: Maya Brady

ย
Brady has three multi-homer games so far this season (San Diego - Feb. 12; Fresno State - March 3; Washington - March 19), stretching her career total to five. ย
Last year's series was highlighted by the second solo no-hitter of Holly Azevedo's career in a game-two 3-0 victory. Azevedo's performance marked UCLA's first no-hitter over a top-10 team (NFCA) since April 11, 2009 when Megan Langenfeld no-hit No. 3 Washington. Faraimo has since accomplished that feat with her no-hitter against No. 3 Florida earlier this season.
ย
Brady Shatters 24-Year-Old Record
Maya Brady broke a 24-year-old record during UCLA's Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. Brady recorded 11 consecutive base hits across four games, breaking the mark of 10 consecutive hits formerly held by UCLA legends Lisa Fernandez (March 1993) and Stacey Nuveman (Feb. 1999). In total, Brady opened the first week of 2023 going 13-for-16 with 13 RBI and four home runs to earn her NFCA Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
