
No. 25 Bruins Beat Utah, 190-106

LOS ANGELES โ The No. 25 UCLA swim and dive earned a 190-106 win over Utah on Saturday afternoon at the Spieker Aquatic Center. The Bruins won all but two events on Saturday.
UCLA's (5-1, 3-1 Pac-12) 400-yard medley relay teams kicked off the slate in a strong fashion to begin the day. The Bruins' 'A' team of Fay Lustria, Ana Jih-Schiff, Joanie Cash, and Brooke Schaffer took first place in the event with a time of 3:41.70. The 'B' squad of Amy Zhang, Eva Carlson, Aislinn Walsh and Sarah Bennetts also finished on the podium, taking second place in 3:43.10.
In the first individual event of the day Ashley Kolessar took the gold in the 1,000 yard freestyle, finishing in 10:07.57. That was quickly followed by a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Schaffer took first in the event in 1:50.11, while Gizem Guvenc took second in 1:51.68.
Lustria took the fourth event of the day for the Bruins, winning the 100-yard backstroke in 55.64. Amy Zhang also earned a spot on the podium, placing third in 56.19.
UCLA earned their first event sweep in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday. Sarah Bennetts won in 1:03.01 while Eva Carlson and Rosie Murphy placed second and third in 1:03.71 and 1:04.16 respectively.
Schaffer then won her second individual event of the day in the 100-yard free, winning in 50.36. Bennetts followed closely in second in 51.40.
Rosie Murphy earned UCLA's sixth event win on Saturday in the 200-yard backstrorke. The sophomore finished in 1:57.93 to take the win, and won by over three seconds.
The Bruins earned their second sweep of the meet in the following event, the 200-yard breaststroke. Jih-Schiff won her second event of the day, finishing in 2:14.24. Paige MacEachern and Eva Carlson then rounded out the tip three, finishing in 2:18/47 and 2:19.37 respectively.
UCLA had a third and final event sweep in the 100-yard butterfly. Joanie Cash finished first in 54.86, Aislinn Walsh took second in 55.00 and Crystal Murphy rounded out the top three in 55.35.
In the final individual event of the day, MacEachern earned another win for the Bruins. She took the 200-yard IM in 2:02.71 to close out the day.
Up Next: The Bruins continue the Pac-12 dual season with a matchup with No. 10 Stanford at the Spieker Aquatic Center on February 2. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. PT.
