No. 25 UCLA Wraps Up Competition at UCSD-Wisconsin Tri-Meet

SAN DIEGO โ The No. 25 UCLA swim and dive posted multiple strong results throughout the three-team tri-meet with No. 13 Wisconsin and UC San Diego on Saturday afternoon at the Canyonview Aquatic Center in San Diego. The Bruins earned three event wins and 17 podium finishes on Saturday.
UCLA's 200-yard medley relay teams kicked off the slate in a strong fashion to begin the day. The Bruins' 'A' team of Fay Lustria, Sarah Bennetts, Joanie Cash , and Brooke Schaffer finished second in the event in 1:41.47, while the 'C' team of Angela Quan, Bailey Herbert, Crystal Murphy, and Ana Jih-Schiff took the bronze in the discipline in 1:44.06.
The first individual podium finish came in the 50-yard breaststroke. Jih-Schiff and Bennetts went 1-2 in the event, with Jih-Schiff finishing in first in 29.01, while Bennetts came in second in 29.39.
Cash and Aislinn Walsh added two more podium finishes for the Bruins in the 100-yard butterfly. Cash placed second in 54.89 while Walsh took third in 55.02.
Lustria earned her second silver of the day in the next event, when she took second in the 50-yard backstroke in 25.81.
Jih-Schiff and Bennetts continued their strong Saturday in the seventhย event of the day. The duo went first and second again, this time in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Jih-Schiff winning in 1:01.80, while Bennetts came in second in 1:03.04.
Later on in the afternoon, Schaffer took third in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 23.73.
Jih-Schiff continued her strong start to the spring with her fourth podium of the day in the 100-yard IM. The junior took silver in the event, finishing in 56.81.
Gizem Guvenc followed Jih-Schiff's dominance with the Bruins' third first-place finish of the afternoon when she won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.33. ย
In the 50-yard butterfly Cash earned her second silver of the afternoon. The junior touched the wall second in 24.87.
Schaffer continued the silver medal trend for UCLA in the next event, the 100-yard freestyle. Schaffer, a graduate student from Mountain View, California, finished in 50.77 to take second place in the event.
In the second to last individual event of the afternoon, Paige MacEachern and Rosie Murphy finished in the top three in 200-yard IM. MacEachern finished second in 2:02.99 while Murphy claimed third in 2:03.34.
The Bruins wrapped up their afternoon of competition with their second podium in a relay event. The Bruins' 'A' team of Maya Wilson, Guvenc, Bennetts, and Schaffer came in second in the 400-yard freestyle in 3:25.99.
Up Next: UCLA returns to action next weekend when they host the Bruin Diving Invitational on Saturday, January 12-14. The Bruins will also host a Pac-12 home dual meet on Saturday, January 13, against Utah.
