Bruins Complete Season Sweep Over Huskies

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA women's volleyball team completed a season sweep over Washington with a straight-set victory on Wednesday night inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-23, 25-20.

The Bruins (12-12, 6-9) have now extended their winning streak against the Huskies (18-7, 8-7) to four matches. UCLA also swept the season series in 2023.

Junior Cheridyn Leverette led the charge with a game-high 13 kills while adding four digs on the defensive end.

Reaching double-digits for the first time since Oct. 17 was freshman Kiki Horne, registering 10 kills on the night. The Raleigh, N.C. native also came up with some pivotal swings in the closing stages of sets two and three to help the Bruins secure the victory.

Junior Grayce Olson recorded her third double-double of the season, tallying 12 kills (.300) and 10 digs.

Setter Audrey Pak also notched a double-double - her seventh of the year - collecting 35 assists and a match-high 11 digs. She scored five kills on eight swings to equal her season-high. UCLA's setter reached 2,000 assists for her career in the match.

UCLA narrowly secured a first-set victory thanks to Leverette's five kills and crucial plays by Horne in the closing moments. The teams traded points early on until Pak's timely dump kill gave the Bruins a two-point edge. Washington responded with a three-point surge to take the lead, but Leverette's side-out sparked a 4-0 run, highlighted by a thunderous kill from Olson.

The teams exchanged 3-0 scoring runs, but Horne's back-to-back kills ignited a four-point streak that proved pivotal for the Bruins. Despite Washington whittling the lead to one point in their comeback attempt, Leverette's kill forced set point, and UCLA held on to win the first frame 25-23. The Bruins limited UW to a hitting percentage of just .122 in the opening set.

Neither team led by more than three points in the tightly contested second set. Leverette and Horne combined for 11 kills to pace the Bruins' offense, while Olson delivered three consecutive kills and an ace in the closing stages to clinch the set for UCLA.

In the final frame, Anna Dodson's powerful kill tied the score at 14-14, providing some much-needed momentum before the media timeout. Consecutive kills from Leverette and Olson extended UCLA's lead to 20-17. Horne then shined once again, delivering a pair of kills to secure the set and the match for the Bruins, 25-20.

UCLA will return to Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. to welcome No. 6 Wisconsin. The match will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
