LOS ANGELES – The No. 10 UCLA softball team lost to No. 9 Oklahoma State, 9-1, in five innings at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament at Easton Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Bruins (2-3) allowed 13 hits, including four home runs and three doubles, to the Cowgirls (4-0). Sophomore pitcher Taylor Tinsley was credited with the loss while Oklahoma State's Lexi Kilfoyl picked up the win, giving up just one hit and striking out three batters over three innings of relief. Ivy Rosenberry started the game for the Cowgirls and allowed two hits in two innings.
Oklahoma State scored its first run of the game in the first inning on three hits. In the second inning, Megan Bloodworth added two runs with one swing of the bat on a homer to center field.
UCLA scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the second. After back-to-back base hits by Sharlize Palacios and Savannah Pola to start the inning, Taylor Stephens grounded a ball to second base and beat out the throw on a potential inning-ending 4-6-3 double play to score Palacios from third base.
Three Oklahoma State homers and an RBI double accounted for a total of six runs in the top of the fifth inning and put the game in run rule territory. The Bruins were retired in order in the bottom half.
Also recording a hit for UCLA was Jadelyn Allchin who also made two stellar plays in the outfield. In the top of the second, Allchin prevented a possible run from scoring with a catch into the wall at center field. Two innings later, Allchin recorded her first assist of the season by taking a line drive off the carom of the left-center field wall to throw out Audrey Schneidmiller at second base.
UCLA heads to Clearwater, Fla. to play five games in three days at the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational from Feb. 16-18. All five of the Bruins' games will be televised by the ESPN Family of Networks. UCLA opens the tournament against No. 3 Florida State and No. 6 Georgia on Friday, Feb. 16.
