The Bruins relied on their depth, receiving strong contributions from their subs who competed while All-Americans Chae Campbell and Nya Reed were rested, and a huge performance from Selena Harris, who scored a perfect 10 on vault, 9.95s on bars and beam and a 39.750 in the all-around to win those events. UCLA led from start to finish after posting a season-high 49.45 on uneven bars, led by a career-high 9.925 from Frida Espara and season-bests of 9.9 from Margzetta Frazier and 9.95 from Harris. Competing with three freshmen and two sophomores on vault, the Bruins maintained the lead by posting a 49.275, aided by Harris' second career perfect 10. With Chae Campbell and Nya Reed resting last week at Oregon State, several Bruins were able to step in and showcase their skills. On vault, freshman Alex Irvine made her competitive debut on the event and hit a 9.85 on her 10.0-start value Yurchenko full on, pike to place fourth. Sophomore Maddie Anyimi hit her best vault of the season with a flared out Yurchenko full that scored 9.8. On floor, Emma Andres and Emily Lee got the call, and each hit for a 9.9 and 9.825, respectively. UCLA will need to replace Emma Malabuyo's bars, beam and floor routines for the next two meets, as she is competing on the World Cup circuit for a chance to qualify for the Olympics. In her first competition on Feb. 16 in Cairo, Malabuyo advanced to Monday's floor exercise final after placing seventh in qualifying. ย ย
HARRIS WINS SECOND-STRAIGHT GYMNAST OF WEEK AWARD ย
For the second week in a row, sophomore Selena Harris was named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week. The Las Vegas native won the all-around and three events in the Bruins' road win over Oregon State, recording her second-consecutive 39.7 all-around score, a 39.750, and third-straight all-around win. Harris scored her second career perfect 10 on vault โ UCLA's first 10 of the year โ and had first-place scores of 9.95 on uneven bars and balance beam. She ranks in the Top 25 on all four events and the all-around, ranking No. 4 on bars, No. 7 in the all-around, No. 8 on vault, No. 12 on beam and No. 25 on floor.

Harris continues to impress in her second season, averaging 39.638 in the all-around, with a season and career-high of 39.775 set Feb. 2. Harris, who has hit all 79 of her routines in her short career, has scored 39.475 or higher in all 19 career all-around appearances. She leads UCLA this season with 15 event victories, 19 Top 3 finishes, and 15 scores of 9.9 or higher. Harris has scored season-bests of 10.0 on vault, 9.975 on beam and floor and 9.95 on bars.ย

Katelyn Rosen is proving to be one of the top freshmen in the nation this season, averaging 39.392 in the all-around, with a high of 39.500 set against Arizona. Her all-around average ranks her at No. 29 nationally and fifth among freshmen. Rosen has competed at least two events in every meet and has posted season-highs of 9.95 on floor, 9.925 on bars, 9.9 on vault and 9.85 on beam. She has won two of the last three Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week awards. ย ย ย ย

Graduate transfer and six-time All-American Nya Reed has made a seamless transition into the Bruin program, competing on vault and floor in five meets so far this season and ranking No. 10 in the nation on floor. She captured her first Pac-12 Specialist of the Week award on Feb. 6 after her winning performances against Arizona, when she scored 9.95 on vault and 9.975 on floor. She averages a team-best 9.925 on floor, along with 9.830 on vault. ย ย ย

Junior Emily Lee has mastered the leadoff position on beam since 2023 and has become just as solid on vault this year, averaging 9.838 on the event. At the Sprouts Collegiate Quad on Jan. 13, she scored a career-high 9.9 on her Yurchenko layout full (9.95 start value), and against Washington on Jan. 27, she earned a 9.875. Both of those vaults led the way for UCLA to record season-high marks of 49.4. On beam, Lee has scored 9.9 or higher three times, including a 9.925 against Arizona that led to a team season-best of 49.525. Last season, Lee scored a career-high 9.95 in the beam leadoff spot on Mar. 11 and had eight total scores of 9.9 or higher. ย
CAMPBELL FULLY PERFECT ย ย
One of the best vaulters in the nation is senior Chae Campbell who ranks No. 6 nationally even with the start value of her Yurchenko full vault half a tenth lower than everyone else in the Top 10. Last season, she was the only first-team All-American who competed a 9.95 start-value vault, and she placed fifth overall at the NCAA Championships with a score of 9.9. This year, she is averaging 9.910, with two perfect scores of 9.95 and three stuck vaults. She has seven career perfect 9.95 marks and two event victories on vault this year. Campbell also has two event wins on floor exercise and averages 9.906 this season, with a high of 9.95.

UCLA welcomes a graduate transfer and four freshmen onto the squad in 2024. Nya Reed brings four years of experience at the University of Florida, where she was a six-time All-American with career-high scores of 9.975 on vault and 10.0 on floor. The freshman class is a mix of national team members in Sydney Barros and Katelyn Rosen and Level 10 standouts in Paige Anastasi and Alex Irvine. Barros is a three-time U.S. national team member and current Puerto Rican all-around champion. Rosen was a member of the 2020 U.S. National Team and the 2022 U.S. Classic floor champion. Anastasi is a four-time Level 10 nationals competitor and the 2023 Region 6 all-around, vault and bars champion. Irvine won a bronze medal on vault at the 2022 Level 10 nationals.ย
Reed, Rosen and Anastasi have competed in all five of UCLA's meets this season. Reed is averaging 9.925 on floor exercise to rank No. 10 nationally, and 9.830 on vault. Rosen averages 9.8 or higher on all four events and has highs of 9.95 on floor, 9.925 on bars, 9.9 on vault, 9.85 on beam and 39.5 in the all-around. Anastasi has a high of 9.825 on vault and debuted a Yurchenko 1.5 on Jan. 27. Irvine made her debut in Denver with an exhibition uneven bars routine that scored 9.7 and has earned a spot in the competitive lineup twice. She competed for the first time on vault at Oregon State and scored 9.85. ย

The Bruins returned the services of three 2023 seniors - Emma Andres, Margzetta Frazier and Chloe Lashbrooke - for their extra year of Covid-19 eligibility. Andres competed in three meets as a freshman in 2020 and in every meet in 2021 before an injury derailed her 2022 season. She came back in 2023 to perform a total of three exhibition routines, scoring highs of 9.850 on beam and 9.700 on floor in the regular season finale. She has earned a spot in the beam lineup the last five meets and recorded a memorable 9.9 in her competitive debut at the Collegiate Quad. In her first competitive floor routine of the season against Arizona, she scored a career-high 9.925, and she followed up that performance with a 9.9 at Oregon State. Four-time All-American and 2021 Pac-12 bars champion Margzetta Frazier is back in her sixth year with the program after redshirting in 2022 with a foot fracture. She went 133 routines in her career before her first-ever fall. Frazier's streak lasted from Jan. 4, 2019 to Jan. 21, 2024. Frazier has competed on uneven bars in every meet this year and has a high of 9.9, set at Oregon State. Last year, Frazier finished fourth overall on floor at the NCAA Championships with a career-best 9.9500. After missing all of the 2021 season and most of 2022 with an Achilles injury, Lashbrooke came back in 2023 to compete on floor in three meets and exhibition in two others, posting a high of 9.875 against Iowa State. She holds a career average of 9.839 on the event. ย
OLYMPIC DREAMSย
The Bruins will be without the services of Jordan Chiles and Ana Padurariu in 2024 as they pursue their Olympic dreams. Chiles is training for her second Olympic spot after winning team silver at the 2020 Olympics and team gold and vault and floor silver at the 2022 World Championships. She also recently won team gold, vault silver and all-around bronze at the Pan American Games. The nine-time All-American had a banner 2023 season, winning the NCAA and Pac-12 bars and floor titles and scoring five perfect 10s (three on bars, two on floor). She was also named the WCGA West Region Gymnast of the Year and College Gym News Sportswoman of the Year. Padurariu is training in hopes of qualifying for her first Olympic berth with Team Canada. A member of Canada's national team from 2015-20 and a World silver medalist on beam in 2018, Padurariu was on the 2020 Olympic path before an ankle injury changed her course. After a successful 2023 collegiate campaign, during which she scored career-highs of 9.95 on bars and beam, Padurariu returned to the elite scene, demoing at the 2023 Canadian National Championships in May and participating in national team training camps in Canada.ย
Emma Malabuyo will also be pursuing an Olympic berth under the Philippines flag but is remaining on the team and competing with the Bruins between qualifying competitions. She advanced to Monday's floor exercise final at her first World Cup meet in Cairo, placing seventh in qualifying with a score of 12.470. Malabuyo made history for the Philippines this past summer at the Asian Championships, recording the highest-ever placement by a Filipina gymnast with her silver medal-winning performance on floor exercise. She scored 13.166 in the event finals, just 0.067 off first place. She also competed in the balance beam final, placing fifth overall with a score of 12.166. The Asian Championships were Malabuyo's first elite competition since the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials, after which she was selected as an alternate for the Olympic Games. ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR ย ย
The Bruin roster is filled with gymnasts who have represented their countries in international competition. Emma Malabuyo now represents the Philippines but was a U.S. national team member for five years and an alternate for the U.S. at the 2020 Olympics. Brooklyn Moors competed at the 2020 Olympics for Canada and was an all-around and floor finalist at three World Championships. Frida Esparza competed for Mexico at the 2018 and 2019 World Championships. Sydney Barros qualified for the 2023 World Championships for Puerto Rico and was previously a three-time U.S. National Team member. Other U.S. National Team competitors were Ciena Alipio, Margzetta Frazier, Emily Lee and Katelyn Rosen.ย

It took just one preseason meet for a Bruin to go viral. Graduate transfer Nya Reed took the honors this season, with a partial video of her Meet the Bruins floor exercise routine, which pays tribute to her sorority Delta Sigma Theta, surpassing three million views on social media. She has been featured on ESPN, BET, Essence and more. Reed's floor music features music by 2 Chainz ("Money Maker", Too Short ("Blow the Whistle"), CeeLo Green ("I'll Be Around"), Cameo ("Candy") and Cheryl Lynn ("Got To Be Real"). Her 9.975 routine from the Arizona meet is currently gaining traction on TikTok. Chae Campbell's Black Panther routine has seen big shares on social media on several occassions, nearing two million views on The Female Quotient's Instagram account. Malabuyo made history for the Philippines this past summer at the Asian Championships, recording the highest-ever placement by a Filipina gymnast with her silver medal-winning performance on floor exercise. She scored 13.166 in the event finals, just 0.067 off first place. She also competed in the balance beam final, placing fifth overall with a score of 12.166. The Bruin roster is filled with gymnasts who have represented their countries in international competition. Emma Malabuyo now represents the Philippines but was a U.S. national team member for five years and an alternate for the U.S. at the 2020 Olympics. Brooklyn Moors competed at the 2020 Olympics for Canada and was an all-around and floor finalist at three World Championships. Frida Esparza competed for Mexico at the 2018 and 2019 World Championships. Sydney Barros qualified for the 2023 World Championships for Puerto Rico and was previously a three-time U.S. National Team member. It took just one preseason meet for a Bruin to go viral. Graduate transfer Nya Reed took the honors this season, with a partial video of her Meet the Bruins floor exercise routine, which pays tribute to her sorority Delta Sigma Theta, surpassing three million views on social media. She has been featured on ESPN, BET, Essence and more. Reed's floor music features music by 2 Chainz ("Money Maker", Too Short ("Blow the Whistle"), CeeLo Green ("I'll Be Around"), Cameo ("Candy") and Cheryl Lynn ("Got To Be Real"). Her 9.975 routine from the Arizona meet is currently gaining traction on TikTok. Chae Campbell's Black Panther routine has seen big shares on social media on several occassions, nearing two million views on The Female Quotient's Instagram account.
