UCLA TRAVELS TO STANFORD FOR FRIDAY DUALย
No. 10 UCLA will travel to No. 24 Stanford for a Friday, March 1 dual meet at Maples Pavilion. The meet will be televised live on Pac-12 Network at 5pm. ย ย ย ย
A LOOK AT THE CARDINAL ย
Stanford enters the meet with a No. 24 national ranking and 1-8 record, its lone win coming Feb. 5 in a 196.875-196.500 dual meet win over Washington. The Cardinal, who rank No. 15 nationally on both bars and beam, has scored 196+ in all but the first meet, with a high of 196.875 achieved twice. Senior Chloe Widner is this week's winner of the Pac-12 Coaches' Choice Award after leading the Cardinal with a 9.975 on beam and 9.925 on floor at Utah. Brenna Neault won the all-around in that meet with a 39.175. Stanford is led by head coach Tabitha Yim and assistant coach and UCLA All-American Hallie Mossett. ย ย ย ย
IN THE RANKINGSย
The national rankings are now being determined by National Qualifying Score. UCLA is Top 10 all across the board, standing at No. 10 overall, No. 4 on vault, No. 5 on floor, No. 8 on beam and No. 10 on bars. Individually, Selena Harris ranks in the Top 25 on all events and the all-around. She is fifth in the all-around and on vault, fourth on bars, 20th on floor and 21st on beam. Chae Campbell ranks eighth on vault, and Nya Reed is tied for 20th on floor. ย ย
LAST TIME OUTย
UCLA hit 24-for-24 and recorded its third-highest score of the season, posting a 197.775, but was unable to overcome No. 3 California's program-record 198.400. The Bruins recorded a season-best 49.575 on uneven bars to trim Cal's lead to three-tenths at the halfway mark, but the Bears earned their second-highest team totals ever on both floor and beam to keep the Bruins at bay. The Bruin leadoff performers were exceptional, as junior Emily Lee scored career-highs of 9.95 on beam and 9.9 on vault and floor. Senior Chae Campbell kicked off UCLA's bars rotation with a career-high 9.95 and received a 10 from one of the judges. Campbell also tied her career-best on beam with a 9.925.ย
IRVINE, MCNAMARA IMPRESS IN EXHIBITIONS ย ย
Although they did not count towards the team score, two Bruins impressed with stellar exhibition performances against Cal. Freshman Alex Irvine, who has fallen on her release move on two previous competitive uneven bars routines this season, hit her exhibition for an impressive 9.9. Senior Katie McNamara made her 2024 debut after missing most of 2023 with a torn ACL and hit her balance beam exhibition for a 9.8. ย
LEE-DOFF LOVE ย ย
Junior Emily Lee has mastered the leadoff position on beam since 2023 and has become just as solid as the leadoff on other events this year as well. On beam, she averages 9.863 as the first gymnast up and has scored 9.9 or higher four times, including last week's career-high-tying 9.95. On vault, she averages 9.847 and picked up her first-ever vault victory with a 9.9 against Cal on the first routine of the meet. She has stuck her Yurchenko full four times in eight meets. Lee has been the leadoff on floor in the last two meets and scored a career-high-tying 9.9 last week against Cal, her third 9.9+ score of the meet. ย
CAMPBELL CAN DO ALL ย ย
Known for her unmatched Yurchenko full vault and stunning performances on floor exercise, senior Chae Campbell put her uneven bars and balance beam prowess on full display on Sunday, scoring career-highs on both events. Campbell led off the Bruins' uneven bars rotation with a career-high 9.95, earning a perfect 10 from one of the two judges. Her previous career-high was 9.9, achieved just three times. The 9.95 also gave her her first career victory on uneven bars. Returning to balance beam for the first time since a sub-9 score at the season opener, Campbell showed her freshman year first-team All-America form, tying her career-high with a 9.925.ย
Campbell has been outstanding as usual on vault, ranking eighth nationally despite competing a 9.95 start-valued vault. She holds a season average of 9.889 on the event and a NQS of 9.905. She has scored a perfect 9.95 twice this year and seven times in her career. ย ย

Sophomore Selena Harris became just the third Bruin ever to total three or more 9.95s in a meet in three consecutive competitions when she did so against Arizona Feb. 4, Oregon State Feb. 9 and Utah Feb. 19. The only other Bruins to ever do it were Jordan Chiles (2023) and Mohini Bhardwaj (2001). Harris already has the fifth-most meets with three or more 9.95s, with three. Jeanette Antolin holds the UCLA record with seven, followed by Chiles and Jamie Dantzscher with five and Kyla Ross with four. Also with three are Bhardwaj, Kristen Maloney and Kate Richardson.
Harris has continued to impress in her sophomore season, averaging 39.628 in the all-around, with a season and career-high of 39.775 set Feb. 2. She has hit all 87 of her routines in her short career, scoring 39.475 or higher in all 21 all-around opportunities. In her last four meets, she has averaged 39.681, with 10 scores of 9.95 or higher. She leads the team with 20 event victories, 26 Top 3 finishes, 21 scores of 9.9 or higher and 14 scores of 9.95 or higher. Harris has scored season-bests of 10.0 on vault, 9.975 on beam and floor and 9.95 on bars.ย
KATE THE GREAT ย ย
Katelyn Rosen is proving to be one of the top freshmen in the nation this season, averaging 39.410 in the all-around, with a high of 39.525 set last week against Cal. Rosen has competed in the all-around in each of the last five meets and on at least two events in every meet. She has posted season-highs of 9.95 on floor, 9.925 on bars, 9.9 on vault and 9.85 on beam and season averages of 9.8 or higher on all four events. She has won Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week twice this year.ย

She captured her first Pac-12 Specialist of the Week award on Feb. 6 after her winning performances against Arizona, when she scored 9.95 on vault and 9.975 on floor. She averages a team-high 9.918 on floor and 9.829 on vault. ย ย ย

Nya Reed brings four years of experience at the University of Florida, where she was a six-time All-American with career-high scores of 9.975 on vault and 10.0 on floor. The freshman class is a mix of national team members in Sydney Barros and Katelyn Rosen and Level 10 standouts in Paige Anastasi and Alex Irvine. Barros is a three-time U.S. national team member and current Puerto Rican all-around champion. Rosen was a member of the 2020 U.S. National Team and the 2022 U.S. Classic floor champion. Anastasi is a four-time Level 10 nationals competitor and the 2023 Region 6 all-around, vault and bars champion. Irvine won a bronze medal on vault at the 2022 Level 10 nationals.ย
Reed, Rosen and Anastasi have competed in at least six of UCLA's meets this season. Reed is averaging 9.918 on floor exercise and ranks No. 20 nationally. Her season average on vault is 9.829. BACK FOR MOREย
The Bruins returned the services of three 2023 seniors - Emma Andres, Margzetta Frazier and Chloe Lashbrooke - for their extra year of Covid-19 eligibility. Andres competed in three meets as a freshman in 2020 and in every meet in 2021 before an injury derailed her 2022 season. She came back in 2023 to perform a total of three exhibition routines, scoring highs of 9.850 on beam and 9.700 on floor in the regular season finale. She has earned a spot in the beam lineup the last seven meets and on floor in the last four. She made her competitive debut on beam at the Collegiate Quad and scored a 9.9, and in her first competitive floor routine of the season against Arizona, she scored a career-high 9.925. Andres is averaging 9.894 on floor. Four-time All-American and 2021 Pac-12 bars champion Margzetta Frazier is back in her sixth year with the program after redshirting in 2022 with a foot fracture. She went 133 routines in her career before her first-ever fall. Frazier's streak lasted from Jan. 4, 2019 to Jan. 21, 2024. Frazier has competed on uneven bars in every meet this year and has scored season-highs of 9.9 twice in her last three meets. Last year, Frazier finished fourth overall on floor at the NCAA Championships with a career-best 9.9500. She holds a career average of 9.839 on the event and made her season debut last week against Cal with an exhibition performance.ย
OLYMPIC DREAMSย
The Bruins are without the services of Jordan Chiles and Ana Padurariu in 2024 as they pursue their Olympic dreams. Chiles is training for her second Olympic spot after winning team silver at the 2020 Olympics and team gold and vault and floor silver at the 2022 World Championships. She also recently won team gold, vault silver and all-around bronze at the Pan American Games. The nine-time All-American had a banner 2023 season, winning the NCAA and Pac-12 bars and floor titles and scoring five perfect 10s (three on bars, two on floor). She was also named the WCGA West Region Gymnast of the Year and College Gym News Sportswoman of the Year. Padurariu is training in hopes of qualifying for her first Olympic berth with Team Canada. A member of Canada's national team from 2015-20 and a World silver medalist on beam in 2018, Padurariu was on the 2020 Olympic path before an ankle injury changed her course. After a successful 2023 collegiate campaign, during which she scored career-highs of 9.95 on bars and beam, Padurariu returned to the elite scene, demoing at the 2023 Canadian National Championships in May and competing at Elite Canada this February.ย
Emma Malabuyo will also be pursuing an Olympic berth under the Philippines flag but is remaining on the team and competing with the Bruins between qualifying competitions. She finished second on floor exercise at her first World Cup meet in Cairo and earned the maximum 30 points towards qualifying and earned 14 points at Cottbus last weekend. After two World Cup events, she sits in second place in the qualifying standings. She is set to compete next in Baku on Mar. 7. Malabuyo made history for the Philippines this past summer at the Asian Championships, recording the highest-ever placement by a Filipina gymnast with her silver medal-winning performance on floor exercise. She scored 13.166 in the event finals, just 0.067 off first place. She also competed in the balance beam final, placing fifth overall with a score of 12.166. The Asian Championships were Malabuyo's first elite competition since the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials, after which she was selected as an alternate for the Olympic Games. ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
