Track and Field Wraps Up Competition in Outdoor Season Openers

LOS ANGELES - UCLA Track and Field closed out competition on Saturday to open its 2024 outdoor season, participating in two meets this week. The Bruins were in action at the Sam Adams Combined Events, hosted by UC Santa Barbara at Pauley Track and Field in Santa Barbara, Calif. from Wednesday, March 6, to Thursday, March 7, and at the Ben Brown Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton at the Titan Track Complex in Fullerton, Calif. from Friday, March 8 to Saturday, March 9.
At the Sam Adams Combined Events, junior Sydney Johnson and graduate student Jada Sims represented UCLA in the women's heptathlon. Finishing in the top two of five events, Johnson placed second overall with 5075 points. Sims also finished in the top two of four events, placing first in the 800m.
Bruin throwers were in action at the Ben Brown Invitational, racking up seven podium finishes in the men's hammer, the women's hammer, and the women's discus. A top-five finish in the men's discus was also secured.
