No. 23 UCLA Sweeps Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa โย The No. 23-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team earned a convincing sweep over Iowa on Sunday afternoon inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Set scores were 25-14, 25-23, 25-9.
UCLA (11-7, 5-3 Big Ten) has now won three of its last four matches via the sweep. The Bruins posted a team hitting percentage of .319 and racked up a season-high nine service aces.ย
Iowa (10-10, 1-7 Big Ten) was led by pins Hallie Steponaitis and Chard'e Vanzandt who tallied eight kills apiece.
Senior outside hitterย Cheridyn Leveretteย paced the UCLA attack with 15 kills at an outstanding .400 clip. In her 15-kill effort, Leverette reached 1,000 kills for her career.

Marianna Singletaryย also ascended into double-digits with 10 kills in the contest, adding a pair of blocks to tally 11 total points.ย Anastasija Ivkovicย contributed eight kills on Sunday afternoon.
At the setter position,ย Kate Duffeyย turned in an excellent performance with 35 assists, seven digs, and a career-best six service aces.ย Lola Schumacherย recorded 14 digs to lead all players in the contest.
UCLA surged to a dominant first-set win over Iowa, powered by early contributions from Duffey, Singletary, Ivkovic, and Leverette to build an 8-4 lead. Briscoe added momentum with consecutive kills, while Duffey's trio of service aces stretched the advantage to 13-6 and triggered another Hawkeye timeout. Leverette led the attack with six kills, and the Bruins hit an impressive .567 as a team, converting 17 of 30 swings to secure a commanding 25-14 victory. The Bruins did not commit a single attack error in the frame.
Iowa opened the second set with a 4-0 burst, but UCLA quickly closed the gap behind a block from Ivkovic and Briscoe. The Hawkeyes responded with a 3-0 run to go up 11-7, only for the Bruins to counter and tie it at 13-all. UCLA then surged ahead with a 5-0 run, highlighted by Duffey's fourth and fifth service aces, to take an 18-15 lead. Despite Iowa fending off three set points, Leverette delivered the decisive kill to secure the set and give UCLA a 2-0 lead in the match.
UCLA opened the third set with a 5-1 run fueled by Duffey's sixth ace and three kills from Leverette. Briscoe's blocks and a kill fromย Eliana Urzuaย extended the lead to 12-4, and a Singletary kill followed by a Leverette ace sparked a 11-2 run to close the match. Bruins maintained control and closed out the match with a decisive 25-9 set win.
UCLA will return to Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. (PT) to host Oregon. The match will be broadcast nationally on Big Ten Network.
