LAST TIME OUT
UCLA women's volleyball had a dramatic weekend at Pauley Pavilion, first battling No. 1 Nebraska before a record crowd of 10,498 and snapping the Huskers' 48-set winning streak with a third-set victory, though ultimately falling in four sets. Maggie Li starred with a season-high 20 kills and a double-double, while Cheridyn Leverette and Marianna Singletary added strong offensive support. The following night, the Bruins rebounded on senior night with a straight-sets sweep of Rutgers, fueled by Leverette's 16 kills and Li's third consecutive double-double. Brooklyn Briscoe sealed the win with late kills, and setter Kate Duffey and libero Lola Schumacher anchored the offense and defense. The split left UCLA at 15-11 overall and 9-7 in Big Ten play heading into their final home match against Illinois.
ย
LI IMPRESSES IN RETURN TO STARTING LINEUP
Maggie Li's return to the starting lineup in the Oct. 22 win over Maryland was nothing short of energizing for UCLA as she made her first start since Sept. 6. She dropped a season-high 20 kills and racked up 10 digs in a remarkable double-double against No. 1 Nebraska. Li has now made six consecutive starts and has been extremely impressive as UCLA's best scorer during that span at 3.89 points-per-set and is second on the the team in kills-per-set (3.55) during the stretch.
ย
PK RETURNS FROM INJURY
Phekran Kong made a triumphant return to the court after an extended absence due to injury, immediately reasserting her presence with a commanding performance in the five-set win over Northwestern. Her impact was felt early and often, as she powered down 10 kills and anchored the net with three crucial blocks. Kong received the start at the opposite position, a spot in the lineup that has not seen a consistent starter this season. She has appeared in just nine matches this season, but the Bruins are 6-3 when she starts. Two of those victories came against ranked opponents (No. 14 Minnesota and No. 22 USC).
ย
SINGLETARY SHINES
Marianna Singletary delivered one of the most impressive performances of her UCLA career, powering the Bruins to a decisive victory over Washington on Nov. 2. The Charleston, S.C. native recorded a career-high 16 kills and added four blocks, (one solo) finishing with a career-best 18.5 points. Singletary ranks top three in the conference for total blocks (125 - 2nd) and blocks-per-set (1.32 - 3rd) and is now UCLA's second-leading scorer, averaging 3.05 points-per-set.
ย
SUPER SCHUMACHER
Lola Schumacher has been remarkably consistent for UCLA at the libero position, recording 22 games with double-digit digs this season. She leads the conference in digs-per-set (4.31) and ranks third in the Big Ten for total digs (371). In Schumacher's 23 starts, she has reached double figure digs in 22 of them.
ย
DUFFEY DIMES
Kate Duffey garnered Big Ten Setter of the Week honors after orchestrating UCLA's offensive dominance by dishing out 66 assists in the team's back-to-back ranked sweeps over No. 14 Minnesota and No. 22 USC. The Bruins' setter has also been impressive on the defensive end as she posted a career-high 22 digs in the team's four set win over Washington on Nov. 2. Duffey recorded her sixth double-double of the year in that win, collecting 44 assists in addition to her 22-dig showing. She then came up with her seventh double-double in the five-set victory over Northwestern on Nov. 8, going for 41 assists and 12 digs. Against No. 1 Nebraska, Duffey tallied her eighth double-double with 45 assists and 10 digs.
