Marianna Singletary delivered one of the most impressive performances of her UCLA career, powering the Bruins (13-9, 7-5 Big Ten) to a decisive victory. The Charleston, S.C. native recorded a career-high 16 kills and added four blocks, (one solo) finishing with a game-best 18.5 points.
The Bruins came up with nine blocks as a team to hold Washington (10-12, 5-7 Big Ten) to a hitting percentage of just .095. Simona Mateska led the Huskies with 15 kills in the contest.
Setter Kate Duffey also turned in a career-best performance, racking up 44 assists and a personal-high 22 digs to orchestrated a prolific UCLA attack.
Cheridyn Leverette reached double figures with 15 kills, while Maggie Li notched her first UCLA double-double, finishing with 13 kills and 11 digs.
UCLA's back row was anchored by standout efforts from its defensive specialists. Lola Schumacher dug out 17 balls and Kat Lutz added 16 to help keep Washington's attack in check.
UCLA opened the match with strong swings from Leverette and Singletary to take an early lead. After a brief back-and-forth stretch, the Bruins regained momentum with a 4-0 run highlighted by a Li ace. Duffey added a dump kill to edge UCLA ahead, and Singletary took over late with three emphatic kills, including a punishing overpass and a clutch swing on set point, to fuel a 6-0 closing run and secure the 25-20 win.
Washington started fast with a 3-0 burst in the second frame, but UCLA responded with a 5-0 run sparked by Briscoe's solo block. Singletary continued her dominant play with consecutive kills and a key block, helping the Bruins build a five-point cushion. Leverette capped a long rally to extend the lead, and despite a late push from the Huskies, UCLA held firm for another 25-20 victory. Washington struggled offensively, committing 12 errors and hitting in the negatives.
UCLA grabbed a quick 4-1 lead in the third set behind Singletary's 10th kill, but Washington answered with a six-point run to flip the momentum. The Huskies extended their lead to 13-7, forcing a UCLA timeout. The Bruins fought back to narrow the gap to three, but nine attacking errors and sub-.100 hitting proved costly as Washington took the set.
A big block from Li and Briscoe tied the set early and sparked a 4-0 UCLA run, followed by another surge capped by a Lutz ace. Washington rallied to even the score at 13, but Anastasija Ivkovic delivered a key side-out kill to restore the lead. Leverette stayed steady on offense, and Singletary's late kill ignited a 3-0 run to push UCLA ahead 23-19. Li closed the door with back-to-back kills, sealing the four-set win for the Bruins.
