GRANT NAMED NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior UTIL Megan Grant was named National Player of the Week by both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and D1Softball on Tuesday in addition to being honored as Big Ten Player of the Week. Grant led UCLA to a perfect 4-0 record last week, including a top-25 sweep over then-No. 21 Ohio State, with a team-best .727 batting average (8-for-11), two home runs, nine runs batted in and 1.455 slugging percentage.
ย

Her third career multi-homer performance brought her season home run total to 17, which is tied for the Big Ten lead. The grand slam was the fourth of Grant's career. Grant's first homer in game one was a three-run shot to cap an eight-run second inning.
ย
ELITE OFFENSIVE NUMBERS
โข UCLA is tops in the country in runs scored and run differential (+263), scoring 343 runs while allowing 80. The Bruins' +263 run differential mark is currently better than the full-season totals from each of the last five years. The last time UCLA had a run differential of +263 or better for a season was in 2019 when it won the program's 12th NCAA title (+336). The program record for run differential is +341 set in 2001 (418/77).
โข UCLA ranks seventh in the nation with 67 home runs and fifth with a .635 slugging percentage. The Bruins have already bested the season home run totals from each of the last three seasons 42 games into 2025. The Bruins rank third in NCAA DI and Big Ten with 152 extra-base hits (67 HR, 10 3B, 75 2B).
ย
THE BRUIN BOMBERS
Bay Area native juniors Megan Grant and Jordan Woolery make up one of the most lethal hitting combos in the country. Grant and Woolery are tied for the Big Ten lead and rank second nationally with 61 runs batted in apiece. Grant and Woolery also rank second and third in the country with 18 and 17 home runs, respectively. The two are on pace to become just the second UCLA duo to each hit 20 home runs in a single season, first being accomplished in 2015 by Stephany LaRosa (20 HR). and Delaney Spaulding (20 HR). This would not be the first time the two made UCLA history together; as All-Americans in 2023, Grant and Woolery combined for 104 runs batted in which were the most by a Bruin freshman duo.
ย
CHEF COOKING WITH GAS
โข Junior UTIL Megan Grant is rounding into form, hitting for a team-best .500 clip (13-for-26), five home runs, 23 runs batted in and 1.231 slugging percentage over UCLA's last 10 games.
โข Grant has hit a grand slam in two of UCLA's last three games, emptying the bases in game one versus Ohio State and on Tuesday at Cal Baptist. She now has five grand slams in her career, which is most on the Bruins' roster.
โข Grant notched the third multi-homer game of her career and second of the season versus Ohio State on Friday, April 4. Her second home run was a walk-off grand slam to beat the Buckeyes in mercy-rule fashion in five innings. Grant hit a three-run homer for her first blast earlier in the game, finishing with a career-high seven runs batted in on the night.
โข Grant, with 61 runs batted in, has reached the 50-RBI plateau for the second time in her three-year career. She needs eight more RBIs to move into UCLA's top 10 for a single season.
โข With 18 bombs, Grant needs two home runs to move into a six-way tie for fifth most in a single season by a UCLA player. Grant has also surpassed her former season high of 15 home runs set during her freshman season in 2023.

SHOWING NO MERCY
UCLA has set a new single-season program record with 23 mercy-rule wins through 42 games. The Bruins broke the record their 40th game into the season with a 14-6 decision in five innings versus Ohio State on April 4. The Bruins surpassed the mark previously set twice in the 2010 and 2015 seasons. Additionally, UCLA has shut out its opponent 14 times, a mark that is good for fifth-best in the country and leads the Big Ten. On the year, UCLA is averaging 8.17 runs per game, which is good for eighth in NCAA DI.
ย
HOME SWEET HOME
The Bruins hold an undefeated 13-0 record at Easton Stadium this season, outscoring their opponents 114-21 inside their friendly confines. Nine of UCLA's 23 mercy-rule wins have come at home. At home, the Bruins own a .390 batting average and .485 on-base percentage as a team. UCLA holds a 619-130 home record (.826) since Easton Stadium opened its doors in March 1994. Since taking over as UCLA's head coach, Kelly Inouye-Perez has guided the Bruins to a 375-79 record in 454 home games (.826).
ย
UCLA went 17-4 in Easton Stadium last season and enters its 32nd campaign in the longtime UCLA home venue. UCLA has surpassed 20 home wins in six of the last seven full seasons dating back to 2017 (excl. 2020). In 2022, the Bruins set a new benchmark for winning percentage at home, going 26-1 (.963). The year prior, UCLA reached the 30-win plateau for just the second time in stadium history.
ย
BRUINS DIG THE LONGBALL
UCLA has totaled 67 home runs through 42 games from 10 different players this season. The Bruins are averaging 1.60 home runs per game, which is their best mark since UCLA's 2010 NCAA title season (1.77 HR/G). That year, the Bruins set the program record for most home runs in a season with 108 over 61 games. UCLA's lineup boasts two of the top three home run hitters in the country in juniors Megan Grant and Jordan Woolery with 18 and 17, respectively.
ย
DOUBLE VISION
UCLA ranks fourth in the country with 75 doubles this season (1.79 2B/GM), already surpassing the full-season totals from 2024 (61) and 2023 (71). The Bruins' 1.79 doubles per game average puts the team on pace to set the program single-season record in both doubles and doubles per game. UCLA has recorded 100-plus doubles twice in program history (102 in 2002, 101 in 2010). The Bruins have logged four or more doubles in a single game on eight occasions this season, including a season-high seven doubles versus Weber State on March 1, which was good for fourth-most in a single game in program history.
ย
L.A. WALKATHON
UCLA has drawn 175 walks and 39 hit-by-pitches this season for a total of 214 free passes. The Bruins' 175 walks rank ninth in the nation, and their average of 4.17 walks per game is third-best in program single-season history. Leading UCLA in walks are juniors Megan Grant and Jordan Woolery with 29 each. UCLA's .458 on-base percentage also rates as sixth-best in NCAA DI and currently sits at second-best for a Bruins team.
ย
WASHINGTON SERIES HISTORY
UCLA leads the all-time series versus Washington, 71-39, dating back to 1993. This weekend will mark the 33rd straight season the two longtime West Coast rivals have squared off, and the first time as newly-minted members of the Big Ten Conference. The two programs have met at the Women's College World Series eight times (UCLA leads, 6-2). The Bruins hold a 7-3 advantage against the Huskies over the last 10 games. Washington took last year's season series with two wins at Husky Softball Stadium in Seattle.
ย
TINSLEY LAST WEEK VS. OHIO STATE
Junior RHP Taylor Tinsley was named as one of five "Stars of the Week" by media outlet Softball America on Tuesday following her dominant performance versus No. 21 Ohio State on April 5. Tinsley tossed a one-hit, complete game shutout and struck out 10 against the Buckeyes. Her gem marked the first time Ohio State, the nation's home runs leader, had been shut out in a game this season. The one hit allowed was also the Buckeyes' fewest in a game. Additionally, Tinsley snapped Ohio State's 14-game streak with multiple home runs. Her performance signaled the first 7.0-inning shutout by a Bruin pitcher against a top-25 foe since her 9.0-inning masterpiece at No. 5 Stanford last April.
ย
POLA'S BREAKOUT SEASON
Senior UTIL Savannah Pola has shown drastic improvement compared to last season. Pola leads UCLA with a .450 batting average (63-for-140) and 22 multi-hit games. The Santa Ana, Calif. product ranks second in the country with 53 runs scored and is fourth with 63 base hits and 16 doubles. She entered conference play a year ago with a .190 batting average (8-for-42) with one extra-base hit through 17 games. Pola, who is enjoying season highs in every offensive category, has yet to commit and error on the defensive side of the ball thanks to her stellar play at second base.
ย
DEFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT
UCLA ranks second in NCAA DI with a .984 fielding percentage, committing 17 errors in 1,057 total chances. UCLA last finished the year ranked top 10 nationally in fielding percentage and with a .980-plus rate in the 2013 season (.980, 2nd).
ย
This performance is amidst a reshuffling of infield positions due to freshman SS Aleena Garcia's season-ending injury. Beginning March 1, junior Jordan Woolery moved from first base to third base, freshman Kaniya Bragg moved from third base to shortstop and junior Megan Grant moved from right field/designated player to first base as a result of the loss of Garcia.
ย
THE BEST SHOW IN TOWN
UCLA has drawn record crowds during each of its first two Big Ten Conference road trips in the team's first year in the new league. In game one of their series at Iowa on March 22, the Bruins performed in front of a max-capacity Bob Pearl Softball Field with 1,375 fans. One week later at Maryland, UCLA earned two wins with 1,000-plus fans in attendance for each of the last two games the series, ushering in crowds of 1,200 and 1,004, respectively.
ย
.400's UP
Three players are currently hitting above .400 entering week eight of the 2025 season: UTIL Savannah Pola (.450), INF Jordan Woolery (.434) and OF Rylee Slimp (.413). UCLA has had two or more players hit above .400 for an entire season in 10 campaigns, last occurring in 2020 when Aaliyah Jordan and Briana Perez reached the benchmark. Only once have the Bruins had three players hit above .400, happening in 1995 thanks to Jennifer Brundage, Tanya Harding and Kelly Howard.
ย
NOT TO BRAGG, BUT...
Freshman INF Kaniya Bragg set the UCLA single-season record for hit-by-pitches with 18 after wearing a pitch against Ohio State on April 4. Bragg needed just 40 games to break Crissy Buck's original mark which was set in the Bruins' 64th and final game of the 2002 season.ย
ย
SLIMP SHADY
OF Rylee Slimp ranks third among Big Ten freshmen with a .413 batting average (45-for-109). The Georgetown, Texas native is on pace to be the sixth freshman in UCLA history to hit above a .400 clip and the first since Kelli Godin in 2019 (.418). The UCLA freshman batting average record is .457 (84-for-184) set by Stacey Nuveman in 1997. Other UCLA freshmen to have hit above .400 include Aaliyah Jordan (2018, .429 AVG), Stephany LaRosa (2012, .436 AVG) and Natasha Watley (2000, .426 AVG). This season, Slimp leads UCLA with five three-hit performances and has started every game in left field.
ย
GONE FISHIN'
Freshman RHP Addisen Fisher has started her collegiate career with a perfect 11-0 record in addition to posting a 2.10 earned run average and 70.0 innings pitched. Fisher is the only freshman in the nation and one of six NCAA Division I pitchers to own a flawless record (min. 47.0 innings). The last UCLA freshman to win 11 or more games before drawing their first loss was Kaitlyn Terry who started last year 12-0. Fisher, from Bend, Ore., arrived at UCLA as the 2024 Gatorade Softball National Player of the Year and the consensus No. 1-ranked recruit in her class. Fisher is also the first player in program history to hail from the state of Oregon.

One week later at Maryland, UCLA earned two wins with 1,000-plus fans in attendance for each of the last two games the series, ushering in crowds of 1,200 and 1,004, respectively.

.400's UP

GONE FISHIN'
Freshman RHP Addisen Fisher has started her collegiate career with a perfect 11-0 record in addition to posting a 2.10 earned run average and 70.0 innings pitched.
