April 18, 2025 | Men's Tennis
MADISON, Wis. โ The 21st-ranked UCLA men's tennis team picked up its fourth win in a row Friday, beating Wisconsin 4-0 in Big Ten Conference play at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
The Bruins (12-8, 10-2 in Big Ten play) prevailed in a closely-contested round of doubles before Alexander Hoogmartens, Emon van Loben Sels and Kaylan Bigun rolled in singles play. The Badgers (9-11, 3-9) collected one doubles victory on the day.
Wisconsin struck first in doubles play, as Oliver Olsson and Tomas Zlatohlavek bested Alexander Hoogmartens and Giacomo Revelli by a 6-4 score on Court 1. UCLA bounced back on Court 2, with Spencer Johnson and Aadarsh Tripathi recording their second win in as many contests together. The pair defeated Patrik Meszaros and Michael Minasyan 6-3, turning all eyes toward Court 3.
The duo of van Loben Sels and Gianluca Ballotta continued to find success, improving to 10-2 since its first match on March 9. The latest victory came by way of a 7-2 tiebreaker opposite Edouard Aubert and Matthew Fullerton on Court 3.
The Bruins won four singles first sets. With Johnson back in the singles lineup for the first time since Feb. 2, Hoogmartens returned to the fifth singles court. The senior improved to 4-1 at the spot, avenging his earlier doubles loss with a 6-1, 6-4 showing versus Zlatohlavek.
No. 86 van Loben Sels earned his second win of the day and ninth singles triumph in as many decisions, knocking off Meszaros in a 6-4, 6-1 display on Court 2.
Moments later, Bigun completed the sweep. The freshman's 7-5, 6-1 victory against Aubert represented his second clincher of the campaign and improved his record in Big Ten matches to 5-2.
UCLA completes its regular season Sunday at Nebraska. First serve from the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT.
