EUGENE, Ore. โ The No. 6-ranked UCLA softball team fell to No. 5 Oregon, 3-1, in a Big Ten Conference contest at Jane Sanders Stadium Friday evening.

The Bruins (40-6, 12-2 Big Ten) left seven runners on base in the contest and totaled five hits. UCLA's lone run of the contest came on a solo homer by graduate outfielder Jessica Clements in the top of the seventh inning. Clements and freshman Rylee Slimp both finished with two hits in the contest.

Two of the Ducks' (40-4, 13-1 Big Ten) three hits were home runs: a solo shot by Rylee McCoy in the fourth inning and two-run blast by Kedre Luschar in the sixth.

Oregon starting pitcher Lyndsey Grein earned her 24th win of the year, striking out eight batters in the process. Grein went through the first two innings with relative ease, retiring six of the first seven batters she faced with four strikeouts.

UCLA's offense finished the game with a season-high 10 strikeouts against the Oregon arms of Grein and Elise Sokolsky.

The Bruins' best chance at overtaking the Ducks' lead came in the top of the sixth trailing 1-0. No. 3 and No. 4 hitters Jordan Woolery and Megan Grant reached on a single and intentional walk to open the inning. After a flyout by Kaniya Bragg, Oregon went to reliever Sokolsky out of the pen who struck out the next two batters, Slimp and Alexis Ramirez.

Oregon tacked on two crucial insurance runs with Luschar's homer to center field off UCLA starter Taylor Tinsley. The hit proved costly as Clements' homer in the next half inning would have knotted the game at 1-1. Tinsley's record dropped to 10-3 with tonight's result.
