Men's Golf Prepares for Action at The Wohali
September 13, 2025 | Men's Golf
LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's golf team will return to action on Monday, competing at The Wohali (Sept. 15-16) at Wohali Golf Club in Coalville, Utah. This will mark the Bruins' second competition of the fall season.
UCLA will be competing in a 14-team field on Monday (Sept. 15) and Tuesday (Sept. 16), alongside tournament host Utah, Arizona State, Cal Poly, Colorado State, Georgia Southern, Kansas State, New Mexico, Oregon State, San Diego, San Diego State, Tarleton State and UNLV.
The two-day tournament format will feature two 18-hole rounds on Monday, followed by a final 18-hole round on Tuesday at Wohali Golf Club.
UCLA's upcoming tournament in Utah will take place eight days after the Bruins registered a third-place finish out of 12 teams at the Sahalee Players Championship in Sammamish, Wash. The three-round tournament in Washington took place on Sept. 6-7.
"We just want to build upon last week," UCLA head coach Armen Kirakossian said. "In our most recent tournament at Sahalee, we had four guys within the top 20, so we had a lot of different contributors. We're looking to build on that. There is some confidence, both on an individual basis and as a team, after a tournament like we had Sahalee. It's a totally different place out here in Utah with some high elevation, so I'd expect that to be the biggest adjustment or challenge for us. We'll be playing at around 6,100 feet so the ball travels further and the air is a lot thinner. We're trying to make quick adjustments to that. We will work hard to figure out our yardages and our distances in Sunday's practice round, in order to prepare for the tournament."
UCLA's Lineup: Kyle An, Alex Papayoanou, Baylor Larrabee, Logan Kim, Josh Kim
UCLA's Individual Competitors: Trevor Garus, Tyler Loree, Luciano Conlan, Matthew Yamin
The Field: Arizona State, BYU, Cal Poly, Colorado State, Georgia Southern, Kansas State, New Mexico, Oregon State, San Diego, San Diego State, Tarleton State, UNLV and Utah (host).
Par and Yardage: Wohali Golf Club (Eagle Course) is a par 72, 7,566-yard course
Live Scoring: Fans can follow along with live scoring at Scoreboard on Monday and Tuesday.
More From Coach Kirakossian
"It's about continuing what we have been doing," Kirakossian said regarding the Bruins' upcoming tournament in Utah. "Our guys have been competing hard to make the lineup at home, which is a good thing. When you are out on the road, you'd like to make your practices harder than tournament golf. I think that we are close to doing that right now, so that is a good sign. We will let the guys go out there and do their thing and play free. This is a golf course that we haven't seen. There's never been a college golf tournament on this course, as it is brand new, so it's a little hard to know what the scoring expectations are. That will be another thing that we will need to adjust to quickly. The first round is just getting a feel for what people are shooting – will it be low scoring, or will it be hard scoring, trying to get a gauge of that in the practice round."
Last Time Out for UCLA
The Bruins recorded a third-place finish at the two-day Sahalee Players Championship in UCLA's first fall competition (Sept. 6-7), shooting 9-over 873 through three rounds in the two-day tournament. UCLA finished at 1-under 287 in the third and final round on Sunday to move into third place on the 12-team leaderboard. The Bruins recorded a finish of 8-over 296 in round one on Saturday and 2-over 290 in the second round on Saturday (full tournament recap here).
Senior Kyle An shot 2-under 70 on the final day of action to move into a tie for ninth place on the tournament's individual leaderboard. An logged his third career top-10 finish, having posted a pair of top 10s as a junior in 2024-25. He concluded the weekend carding 1-over 217.
In all, UCLA had four golfers who finished among the top 20 on the individual leaderboard. Joining An in that category included junior Alex Papayoanou (T-11th), sophomore Baylor Larrabee (T-13th) and sophomore Logan Kim (T-17th). Freshman Tyler Loree finished in a tie for 50th place at 14-over 230.
Kim and Papayoanou had particularly strong efforts in the third round on Sunday. Kim shot 1-under 71 on Sunday at Sahalee Country Club, while Papayoanou finished at even par (72). Papayoanou shot 2-over 218 through all three rounds, finishing the weekend in a tie for 11th place.
On the Horizon
Following next week's event in Coalville, Utah, the Bruins will have just two more fall competitions on the schedule. The Bruins are set to compete at Notre Dame (Warren Golf Course) in the Fighting Irish Classic on Oct. 6-7, before returning to the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational in Alpharetta, Ga., from Oct. 24-26. UCLA competed in both of those fall events last season.
2024-25 in Review
The Bruins concluded a successful 2024-25 golf campaign by advancing to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2018. The Bruins finished in 20th place out of 30 teams, missing the first cut to advance in the championship tournament. As an individual who competed through Monday's fourth round, Pablo Ereño became UCLA's first golfer to have finished in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard at the NCAA Championships since Lorens Chan in 2014 (t-9th, in Hutchinson, Kansas). Ereño's sixth-place individual finish was the best by any UCLA golfer since Patrick Cantlay finished in a tie for fourth place at the 2012 NCAA Championships (Pacific Palisades, Calif.).
Both Ereño and Morales secured collegiate medals during the 2024-25 season. Ereño won UCLA's first event in the fall, capturing his first collegiate medal at The Tindall at Aldarra Golf Club. Morales won his third college medal by winning the Big Ten Championships in late April in Baltimore, at the Baltimore Country Club. The two seniors last season finished the 2025 collegiate campaign ranked No. 9 (Morales) and No. 10 (Ereño) in the PGA Tour University rankings (PGA TOUR U). Ereño climbed into the No. 10 position in the rankings by finishing in sixth place on the individual leaderboard at the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. He shot 3-under 69 on Sunday and Monday to finish with a four-day score of 5-under 283.
Ereño and Morales were honored at the conclusion of the season on the NCAA Division I PING All-West Region team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Bruins' senior duo was also recognized on the same All-West Region team as juniors in 2023-24.
Ereño was honored as the Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Year, while Baylor Larrabee earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year acclaim. In addition, Armen Kirakossian was recognized as the Big Ten Coach of the Year in UCLA's first season competing in the conference. The Bruins won the Big Ten Championships, hosted in Baltimore, with a score of 2-over 842 – just one stroke ahead of Illinois (3-over 843). The final day of competition at Baltimore Country Club presented consistent winds at 12-18 miles per hour, gusting to as high 35 miles per hour.
Morales shot even par (70) on Sunday at the Big Ten Championships, sinking a putt on the 18th hole to hold at par before awaiting the results of Oregon's Greyson Leach. Morales finished the tournament at 7-under 203, while Leach carded 4-under 206. Leach needed to birdie the final three holes to have any chance of tying Morales for the top spot (Leach had a bogey on the 17th hole).
