LOS ANGELES – The No. 21-ranked UCLA men's golf team will return to action in Southern California this week, competing at the Southwestern Invitational from Monday through Wednesday, hosted at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif.
The 54-hole, stroke play tournament will run from Monday, Jan. 26, through Wednesday, Jan. 28. Fans will be able to follow the scoring action at Scoreboard.
In addition to UCLA and host institution Pepperdine, the 13-team field will include Colorado State, Loyola Marymount, New Mexico, San Diego, San Diego State, San Jose State, SMU, UNLV, USC, Utah and Washington. All 13 competing teams are ranked in the top 100, and eight of those programs are currently ranked in the top 50 (including UCLA, the latest rankings are here).
"We're really excited to play in the Southwestern Invitational," UCLA head coach Armen Kirakossian said. "It's always nice to be able to compete in your backyard. We're looking forward to that, and this is a place that our guys like. We have had success there in the past. So that sets up well with our guys and their comfort level. We are definitely eager to get back out and compete in a stroke play event after we finished up in The Copper Cup. The boys are motivated and hungry and looking forward to it. Our mindset, we want to go there and see what we've got as far as the lineup for this spring. Our guys are working toward postseason. This is just the start of that. It's nice to get those reps in The Copper Cup, and we would like to be a little bit sharper as we head into the Southwestern, and we are looking forward to having a great week."
This will mark the first of seven upcoming spring golf tournaments for UCLA (including the season-culminating Big Ten Tournament).
