STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Bronte Law opened her second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate with an eagle and used that momentum to climb into the lead after 36 holes. On a day when the second-best round was a 7-over 291 by the host team, UCLA shot a 1-over 285 to go from two strokes behind after 18 holes to 11 shots ahead going into Sunday's final round.
The Bruins have a two-round total of 572 (+4) and lead Stanford (+15, 583) as they search for their fourth all-time victory at the Stanford Intercollegiate. After 36 holes, UCLA leads the field in par-5 scoring (-14) and is also first with 26 birdies.
Law, in search of the seventh victory of her career, which would surpass Kay Cockerill for the most wins in UCLA history, is 7-under (135) after Saturday's 6-under 65 and five shots clear of Stanford's Andrea Lee and San Diego State's Georgia Lacey (-2, 140). After eagling the par-5 first hole, Law added a birdie on #7 to make the turn at 3-under. On the back nine, she added birdies on #11, #16 and #18 to tie for the second-lowest round of her collegiate career.
Sophomore Lilia Vu is tied for fifth after 36 holes at 1-over (143) after an even-par 71 on Saturday. Vu birdied the first hole, as well as the 12th, to go with bogeys on #6 and #13. Sophomore Bethany Wu slid into a tie for eighth (+2, 144) after a 4-over 75. She also birdied her first hole, in addition to the ninth, but also made four bogeys and a double bogey. Freshman Mariel Galdiano is tied for 34th at 8-over (150) after a second-round 74 (+3). She rebounded from a tough front nine to post birdies on #12, #14 and #16 to combat her six bogeys. Freshman Clare Legaspi had a 4-over 75 on Saturday and is tied for 53rd (+11, 153). She made birdies on #12 and #17, coupled with four bogeys and a double.
The Bruins will tee off on Sunday at 9 a.m. in the order of Legaspi, Galdiano, Wu, Vu and Law. Live scoring will be available here.
