KOHALA, Hawai'i - The second-ranked Bruins, fresh off a win at the Stanford Intercollegiate a few days ago, are back on the golf course starting Monday at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview at the Nanea Golf Club. The 54-hole tournament will feature 36 holes of golf on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday on the par-73, 6,372-yard layout.
The starting fivesome for UCLA will be juniors Lilia Vu and Beth Wu, sophomores Mariel Galdiano and Clare Legaspi and freshman Patty Tavatanakit. Action each day starts at 7:30 a.m. HT/10:30 a.m. PT with a shotgun start. Live scoring will be available here.
All 11 Pac-12 teams, along with host Hawai'i, are participating. The Bruins are the highest-ranked team, followed by #4 Arizona State, #7 Stanford, #11 Colorado, #12 USC, #26 Washington, #39 Arizona, #56 California, #57 Oregon, #67 Washington State and #80 Oregon State (Golfstat rankings as of Oct. 17).
The Bruins have finished first and second in their first two tournaments of the year, winning at Stanford (-3, 849), while finishing second at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate (Oct. 1-3, -4, 860).
Likewise, Tavatanakit has finished first and second in her first tournaments, sharing medalist honors at Stanford (-6, 207) and placing solo second at the ANNIKA (-5, 211). All six of her rounds have been under par, including a final-round 67 (-4) at Stanford and a second-round 69 (-3) at the ANNIKA.
Vu and Wu each tied for sixth at Stanford (E, 213), with Vu recording a pair of 1-under 70s in her first tournament of the year and Wu posting a closing 70 to notch her second Top 20 (T-16, +1, 217 at the ANNIKA). Galdiano had a solo 11th finish at Stanford (+3, 216), which featured a final-round 68 (-3), and a T-11 showing at the ANNIKA (-1, 215), closing with a final-round 69 (-3). Legaspi tied for 16th at the ANNIKA (+1, 217) and tied for 39th at Stanford (+13, 226).
In the four previous versions of the Nanea Pac-12 Preview, the Bruins have won once (2015, +1, 877) and finished second twice (2013, -14, 862; 2014, E, 876). Galdiano posted a second-place finish a year ago (-4, 215), while Wu tied for 17th (+5, 224). In 2015, Vu tied for eighth (+1, 220) and Wu tied for 15th (+4, 223). Bronte Law (2013, -8, 211) and Alison Lee (2014, -10, 209) were medalists the first two years of the tournament.
