LOS ANGELES - Sophomore Zoe Shaw set a career high with three hits and equaled a personal best with two runs batted in to help the 13th-ranked Bruins post a 3-1 victory over #22 California on Saturday at Easton Stadium.

The Bruins improved to 32-12 overall and 7-7 in Pac-12 play and will look for the sweep on Sunday at 5 p.m. in a game that will air on Pac-12 Network National and Los Angeles.

In the circle, junior Selina Ta'amilo (9-0) picked up the win, striking out three in four-plus innings and giving up one run, five hits and four walks. Redshirt freshman Rachel Garcia recorded her second save of the season, retiring all seven batters she faced in 2 1/3 innings, fanning three. Redshirt senior Paige McDuffee also faced five batters in the sixth inning, retiring two and giving up a hit and a walk. UCLA had six hits from four different players.

UCLA scored the game's first run in the second inning, as freshman Bubba Nickles led off with an infield single to short and moved to second when the throw went into the Cal dugout. A sacrifice by sophomore Paige Halstead moved Nickles to third and she scored one out later on a single up the middle by Shaw.

In the fourth, Shaw came through again. With one out, senior Gabrielle Maurice doubled to right-center. Shaw followed with a rocket shot off the pitcher that caromed into right field, with Maurice coming home to score the Bruins' second run.

In the fifth, a pair of errors on the same play plated UCLA's third run. Sophomore Brianna Tautalafua led off the inning with her third walk of the game and was pinch-run for by sophomore Imani Johnson. Junior Madeline Jelenicki then tapped a ball to short, which was bobbled, and when the Cal shortstop tried to get Johnson at second, she threw the ball into right-center. Johnson came all the away around to score to put the Bruins up 3-0.

California (26-15, 3-10) would get on the board in the sixth on an RBI single by Taurie Pogue, but the Golden Bears would end up stranding 11 in the game to fall by two.
