LAS CRUCES, N.M. -ย Freshman Mac May had 16 kills and just one error in 30 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage, adding nine digs and two aces, while senior Sarah Sponcil recorded 37 assists, seven digs, three kills and an ace, as the 11th-ranked Bruins improved to 5-0 with a sweep of UNLV on Saturday morning at the Pan American Center. Set scores were 25-18, 25-19, 25-21.

Senior Reily Buechler added 10 kills, nine digs and an ace, freshman Jenny Mosser had eight kills and junior Kyra Rogers posted seven kills. Junior Zana Muno tallied 16 digs. The Bruins hit .321 for the match.

The first set featured 10 ties and four lead changes. The largest lead for UNLV (3-3) was just one, the latest of which was at 8-7, but a 4-1 Bruin run on kills by Sponcil and Buechler and two Rebel errors put UCLA up for good at 11-9. The score was tied again at 11- and 12-all, but kills by Mosser and Buechler and a UNLV error made it 15-12.

At 16-14, UCLA scored nine of the last 13 points to win the opener, 25-18. May and Rogers each had three kills during the last 9-4 run, while UNLV committed three errors, including two in a row to end the set. Buechler had four kills and four digs, May added four kills, Rogers posted three kills and Muno notched five digs, as the Bruins out-hit the Rebels, .324 to .128.

The Bruins pulled away in set two. UNLV led by as much as two, but at 7-5, UCLA scored 10 of the next 13 to go ahead 15-10. May had three of her set-best seven kills during the run, along with an ace. The Rebels got no closer than two for the rest of the set, as a Mosser kill and a UNLV ball handling error wrapped up a 25-19 win. May was error-free in 10 swings, adding four digs. Buechler once again had four kills and four digs, Mosser posted four kills, Muno added seven digs and Sponcil had four digs, as the Bruins out-hit the Rebels, .359 to .216.

Buechler had two kills and an ace during the 5-2 run to make it 8-6. After a sideout, the Bruins scored five of six to go up by a handful. The Rebels climbed all the way back into a tie at 13, and were also even with the Bruins at 17, but could not re-take the lead. At 21-20, UCLA scored four of the final five. Two May kills and a UNLV error gave the Bruins a set point and Rogers finished off the match with a 25-21 win. May was error-free again in the third with five kills in 12 attempts. May and Muno each had four digs. The Bruins out-hit the Rebels, .273 to .152.

UCLA heads to Lincoln next weekend for a two-match series at #12 Nebraska. The Bruins will battle the Cornhuskers on Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. PT before a rematch on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. PT.
