SEATTLE - Behind a career-best 27 kills from sophomore Mac May, the 20th-rankedย Bruins snapped a 15-match losing streak at Alaska Airlines Arena and a nine-match overall losing streak to Washington, defeating the 19th-ranked Huskies in four sets on Friday. Set scores were 26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21.

The Bruins improved to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in Pac-12 play, winning for the first time in Seattle since Oct. 3, 2003. Washington fell to 13-7 and 5-5 in conference.

May added 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Sophomore Jenny Mosserย also had a double-double, her seventh of the season, with 10 kills and 10 digs to go with five blocks. Senior Zana Muno added 19 digs and two aces, while junior Savvy Simoย posted 11 digs and two aces. Junior Kylie Miller contributed 52 assists, eight digs and three kills, setting the Bruins to a .235 hitting percentage. Redshirt freshman Alexis Light had 11 kills and four digs, junior Madeleine Gates notched nine kills and six blocks and senior Kyra Rogers collected four kills, six digs and three blocks.

Set one featured nine ties and five lead changes. The Bruins trailed by as many as five before coming back to win the opener. Down by three as late as 20-17, a 5-1 run on kills by Light and Mosser and three Gates blocks, one solo, one with Light and one with Mosser, gave UCLA a 22-21 edge. Washington came back with the next two, but a Light kill and another solo stuff from Gates gave the Bruins a set point. The Huskies saved the first attempt, but a May kill and Munoย ace closed out a 26-24 victory. Light and May each had four kills in the first, Gates added four blocks, Muno recorded five digs and Mosser had four digs, as the Bruins out-hit the Huskies, .125 to .051.

Trailing 5-3 in set two, the Bruins scored six of the next seven and never looked back. May recorded three kills during the 6-1 run, Mosser had a kill, Miller served an ace and Washington committed an attack error. UCLA held at least a two-point lead for the rest of the set. Leading 21-18, the Bruins scored four of the last five of the second to win it 25-19. Back-to-back kills by May made it 23-18, and after a UW sideout, two more kills from May gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead in the match. May notched seven kills and four digs in the second, while Mosser and Rogers were both error-free with three kills apiece. Muno had five digs and Simoย tallied four. The Bruins out-hit the Huskies, .268 to .189.

Set three was a close one with 12 ties and four lead changes, but Washington prevailed to stay alive in the match. The Bruins were closing in on a sweep, leading by four as late as 19-15, but the Huskies scored 10 of the last 13 of the set to win the third by a total of 25-22. May was error-free with six kills in 11 attempts, adding six digs. Mosser was 4-for-11 with no errors and Gates and Light both had three kills. The Bruins were out-hit .366 to .239.

The fourth stanza featured 11 ties and three lead changes. Down 10-8, the Bruins scored five in a row on three May kills, a Simo ace and a Gates kill to go ahead 13-10. With UCLA still up by four at 17-13, Washington rallied with six of seven to take a 19-18 edge. But the Bruins were not going to be denied, scoring seven of the last nine points of the match to break their streak in Seattle. A service error and a May kill gave the Bruins a 20-19 lead. Following a UW sideout, four in a row on kills by Light and May, a Miller/Gates block and another May kill gave the Bruins four match points. The first was saved, but a Miller kill closed out a 25-21 win. May saved her best for last, posting 10 of the Bruins' 17 kills in the fourth set. Light added three kills and Munoย had six digs. The Bruins out-hit the Huskies, .308 to .171.

The Bruins travel east to Pullman, facing No. 23 Washington State on Sunday at 12 p.m. The match will air on Pac-12 Network Washington.
