PULLMAN, Wash. - Sophomore Mac May had a double-double for the second match in a row, recording 13 kills and 10 digs, but the 20th-ranked Bruins dropped a three-set decision at No. 23 Washington State on Sunday at Bohler Gym.

Senior Zana Muno collected 18 digs, junior Kylie Miller had 31 assists and seven digs and redshirt freshman Alexis Light posted eight kills and a career-high nine digs. Junior Madeleine Gates and sophomore Jenny Mosser each had seven kills, senior Kyra Rogers contributed six digs, four blocks and three kills and junior Savvy Simo had five digs. The Bruins (11-6, 6-4 Pac-12) hit .143 for the match.

The opening set featured 10 ties and three lead changes. With the score even at nine, the Bruins scored seven of nine to go ahead by a set-best five at 16-11. Rogers had two kills during the 7-2 run, May and Light each recorded one, Mosser and Gates teamed up for a block and WSU made two errors. It was all Washington State (15-5, 6-4 Pac-12) after that though, as the Cougars scored 14 of the next 20 points to take the opener by a score of 25-22. May had four kills in the first, Gates added three and Light provided five digs. The Bruins out-hit the Cougars, .135 to .125.

The Cougars jumped all over the Bruins to start the second set, scoring nine of the first 12. The largest lead of the set for WSU was seven at 14-7. UCLA would get to within three a couple of times, but ended up losing the set by a score of 25-20. May was 4-for-11 with no errors in the second, Light had three kills and Munoย collected 10 digs. The Bruins were out-hit .220 to .146.

The third set was another close one with 10 ties and four lead changes. Down 10-7, the Bruins scored five in a row on two May kills and three Cougar errors. Washington re-gained the lead and was up 15-14, but kills by Mosser and Light and two Cougar errors put UCLA ahead by three. However, Washington State netted the next five, as well as 10 of the last 13 points of the match, to win the third by a total of 25-21. May again led the Bruins with five kills, while Light and Mosser each recorded three. Defensively, Muno had seven digs, Rogers and May both notched five and Miller added four. The Bruins were out-hit .204 to .146.

The Bruins return home on Friday, taking on California at 7 p.m. at Pauleyย Pavilion presented by Wescom. A free video stream will be available for the match at UCLABruins.com.
