LOS ANGELES - Senior Zana Munoย had 21 digs and sophomore Mac May provided 12 kills, seven digs and three aces, but the 20th-rankedย Bruins dropped a match to California on Friday at Pauleyย Pavilion presented by Wescom. Set scores were 22-25, 15-25, 22-25.

Sophomore Jenny Mosser added nine kills and four digs, junior Kylie Miller posted 18 assists and eight digs, junior Madeleine Gates and redshirtย freshman Alexis Light both had five kills and senior Kyra Rogers collected four kills and four blocks.

The first set featured 14 ties and seven lead changes. UCLA's largest lead was a pair at 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2. The Bruins (11-7, 6-5 Pac-12) led as late as 20-19, but California (12-10, 4-7) scored six of the last eight points of the opener to take the set by a score of 25-22. Light had three kills in the first, Miller added five digs and May notched four, as the Bruins were out-hit .237 to .194.

UCLA jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in set two, as May had three aces and a kill, Rogers and Mosser teamed up on a block and Cal made two errors. The lead would be short-lived, as the Golden Bears came back with nine of the next 11 to go ahead 10-9. After a tie at 11, five in a row for Cal gave the visitors the lead for good, as the Bears scored 14 of the last 18 points to win the second, 25-15. Muno had seven digs in the second. The Bruins were out-hit .211 to -.029.

The Bruins got off to another strong start in set three, scoring seven of the first 10 on three May kills, two by Mosser, one from Gates and a Cal attack error. Four would be UCLA's largest lead of the set. The Golden Bears would take the lead back and held a 19-15 edge when the Bruins scored six in a row on two Mosser kills, one each by Light, May and Rogers and a Cal error. With UCLA still up by two at 22-20, Cal scored the final five points of the set to win the third, 25-22. May had eight kills in the third, Mosser added five and Gates posted three. Muno also had 12 digs. The Bruins were out-hit .371 to .298.

The Bruins return to Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Sunday at 4 p.m. when they take on No. 2 Stanford. The match will air on Pac-12 Networks.
