LOS ANGELES - Earning the first start of her career, redshirt freshman Emily Ryan recorded a personal-best 10 kills, three blocks and one ace, but the Bruins dropped a three-set decision to Colorado on Wednesday at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. Set scores were 20-25, 15-25, 24-26.

Junior Kylie Miller had a double-double with 33 assists and 12 digs, junior Madeleine Gates posted eight kills and no errors in 18 attempts for a .444 hitting percentage and senior Zana Muno notched 19 digs. Sophomore Jenny Mosser added eight kills and seven digs, sophomore Mac May had eight kills, junior Savvy Simo provided six digs, freshman Sawyer Aigner-Swesey added five digs and senior Kyra Rogers had four kills. The Bruins hit .219 for the match.

The opening set featured 10 ties and three lead changes. Even at seven, a Rogers/Ryan block and a Mosser kill gave the Bruins a two-point edge, which would be their largest of the set. UCLA trailed 18-15 before getting a Ryan kill, a May ace and a Colorado attack error to even things at 18. However, a 7-2 run by the Buffaloes (18-12, 10-9 Pac-12) would help the visitors win the first set by a score of 25-20. Mosser posted four kills, May added three and Muno provided eight digs, as the Bruins were out-hit, .297 to .211.

UCLA (13-13, 8-11 Pac-12) held a 7-5 lead in set two, but Colorado netted the next four and 11 of 13 to go ahead 16-9. Seven would be the closest the Bruins would be for the rest of the set, which was won by a score of 25-15 by the Buffaloes. Ryan was 4-for-7 with no errors in the second, Mosser added three kills and four digs, Gates had three kills, Miller recorded five digs and Muno had four digs. The Bruins were out-hit, .457 to .189.

The Bruins held a 7-3 lead in set three, as Ryan accounted for five of the points on an ace, two blocks and two kills. After Colorado came back to tie things up at 15, a 4-0 Bruin run on a CU service error, a Rogers ace, a Gates kill and a Mosser/Gates block put the home team up 19-15. UCLA still held a lead as late as 22-21 before the Buffaloes scored the next two. Colorado earned match points at 24-23 and 25-24, eventually winning the third, 26-24. Ryan had four kills in the third, Gates and May each posted three, Muno had seven digs and Miller added five. The Bruins out-hit the Buffaloes, .256 to .234.

UCLA will host No. 15 USC in the final match of the regular season on Friday at 5 p.m. at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.
