PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. - The top-ranked Bruins are tied for third after one round at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, while junior Beth Wu is tied for fifth after shooting a 1-under 70. UCLA as a team posted an 8-over 292 on Sunday and is seven shots back of the overall lead held by Arizona and Arizona State (+1).
Wu, who was one of only seven players to break par in some windy conditions, is two shots back of the individual lead (ASU's Olivia Mehaffey). Wu made four birdies in her round, including three in a row on holes #7-#9. She added a birdie on #12, while making three bogeys.
Freshman Patty Tavatanakit shot an even-par 71 and is tied for eighth. She recorded four birdies on #4, #9, #15 and #17, adding two bogeys and a double bogey. Junior Lilia Vu is tied for 39th, posting a 4-over 75 on a pair of birdies (#16 and #18), four bogeys and a double. Senior Joo Seo tallied a 5-over 76 and is tied for 53rd. Her lone birdie came on #14 to go with four bogeys and a double bogey. Sophomore Mariel Galdiano made a birdie on the second and eight bogeys and is tied for 64th (+7). Senior Erin Choi, playing as an individual, posted a 6-over 77 (T-61), making two birdies on #12 and #17, six bogeys and a double.
The Bruins' scoring fivesome begins round two on Monday at 9:33 a.m. off the first tee in the order of Seo, Galdiano, Tavatanakit, Vu and Wu. Choi will begin her second round at 9:11 a.m. on the 10th. Live scoring will be available here.
