SAN DIEGO - Junior Madeleine Gates recorded the first double-double of her career, posting 13 kills and a personal-high 11 blocks, with sophomore Jenny Mosser and freshman Devon Chang also adding double-doubles, as the 10th-ranked Bruins won their second, five-set match in a row at No. 19 San Diego on Sunday at Jenny Craig Pavilion. Set scores were 21-25, 25-17, 25-13, 19-25, 15-11.

May had two kills during the 7-3 run, Rogers recorded a solo block, Gates and Harrer teamed up for a roof and San Diego made three errors. The closest the Toreros would get the rest of the way was three points. Leading 22-17, the Bruins scored the final three points of the second, as Gates and May had kills and Mosser served an ace. Gates led the Bruins with six kills, while May added five. Defensively, Simo had eight digs and Muno posted six, while Harrer had three blocks. The Bruins out-hit the Toreros .188 to .068.

The Bruins hit .258 and held the Toreros to a -.045 percentage.
The Bruins' only leads in set four were 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2, as San Diego scored the next six and held the advantage for the rest of the set. Down 13-9, the Bruins scored six of eight to equal things at 15, as Gates had two kills, Mosser and May each posted one, Harrer served an ace and USD made an error. But the Toreros came back with five of the next six and went on to win the fourth 25-19. Gates, May and Rogers each had three kills, while Chang posted six digs. The Toreros out-hit the Bruins .359 to .162.
The only deficit for the Bruins in set five came after dropping the opening point, as a kill and ace by Rogers gave UCLA the lead for good. The Bruins held a 10-9 lead when they scored three of four on two Mosser kills and one by Harrer to go up 13-10. Following a San Diego sideout, a Gates kill gave the Bruins four match points, with a kill by May wrapping up a 15-11 victory. Mosser had four kills in the deciding set, as the Bruins out-hit the Toreros .346 to .304.
