STANFORD, Calif. - Freshmen Ty Akabane and Emma Spitz each shot under par during round two of the Stanford Intercollegiate on Saturday, as both are tied for eighth following two rounds at the Stanford Golf Course. As a team, UCLA is in seventh place (+10, 578), shooting a 4-over 288, two strokes better than Friday.
Akabane, playing as an individual, made three birdies on the first, seventh and 12th holes to go with just one bogey in her 2-under 69. Spitz made an eagle on the par-5 7th, adding birdies on No. 1, 13 and 18, one bogey and one double. Both players are at 2-under 140 for the tournament.
Freshman Annabel Wilson is tied for 33rd (+4, 146), shooting a 1-over 72 on Saturday. She made nine pars on the front nine, while on the back nine she posted three birdies (No. 11, 14 and 17), two pars and four bogeys. Sophomore Simar Singh was also under par in round two, posting a 1-under 70, which was eight strokes better than her Friday round. She made four birdies on No. 7, 8, 10 and 18 and three bogeys and is tied for 47th (+6, 148). Freshman Yuki Yoshihara is tied for 61st (+8, 150), recording a birdie on the 17th and seven bogeys in a 6-over 77. Freshman Emilie Paltrinieri is tied for 69th (+9, 151), making a birdie on the first and nine bogeys in an 8-over 79.
Sunday's play will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., with Wilson and Spitz opening on the seventh, Singh on the eighth and Paltrinieri and Yoshihara starting on the ninth. Akabane begins on hole No. 15.
