No. 13 Bruins Ready for Title Defense at Pac-12 Championships

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The 13th-ranked Bruins, back-to-back winners of the Pac-12 Women's Golf Championships, look for a three-peat this week at the Palos Verdes Golf Club. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played Monday through Wednesday at the par-71, 6,131-yard layout.
The starting fivesome for the Bruins will be senior Beth Wu, juniors Mariel Galdiano and Clare Legaspi, sophomore Patty Tavatanakit and freshman Phoebe Yue. UCLA opens the tournament on Monday at 9:30 a.m. off the 10th tee in the order of Yue, Legaspi, Tavatanakit, Wu and Galdiano.
The current Golfstat rankings for the Pac-12 Championships are No. 1 USC, No. 4 Stanford, No. 7 Arizona, No. 15 Arizona State, No. 21 Oregon, No. 23 Washington, No. 35 Oregon State, No. 44 California, Colorado and Washington State.
The Bruins, seven-time winners of the Pac-12 Championships, are looking to three-peat for the third time after winning three in a row from 2004 through 2006. UCLA also won titles in 1990 and 1991. The Bruins have had back-to-back medalists, as Tavatanakit won in 2018 and Lilia Vu won in 2017. UCLA has had seven winners of the Pac-12 Championships (Alison Lee - 2014; Tiffany Lua - 2011; Tiffany Joh - 2007; Charlotte Mayorkas - 2004; Lisa Kiggens - 1991).
Three Bruins have posted individual victories this season. Galdiano was a back-to-back winner at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 24-26) and the Stanford Intercollegiate (Oct. 19-21). Tavatanakit won the season-opening ANNIKA Intercollegiate (Sept. 17-19) and shared dual match vs. Denver (March 26) medalist honors with Wu, who also won the PING/ASU Invitational (March 29-31).
Tavatanakit is tops on the team with five Top 10 finishes, followed by four from Galdiano, three from both Legaspi and Wu and two by Yue. UCLA has team wins at the Golfweek Challenge and the dual match vs. Denver, as well as a pair of second-place showings.
