LONG BEACH -ย Junior Mac May led the Bruins with 17 kills, adding seven digs, three aces and three blocks, while sophomore Devon Chang recorded 19 assists and seven digs, as the Bruins swept Texas State on Friday at the Walter Pyramid to give head coach Michael Sealy his 200th career victory. Set scores were 26-24, 25-18, 25-23.

The Bruins (2-2) hit .303 for the match behind the setting of Chang and sophomore Hawley Harrer, who had 18 assists, six digs and four kills. Junior Jenny Mosser notched seven kills, senior Savvy Simo had 10 digs and six kills, sophomore Kelli Barry posted 11 digs, redshirt freshman Tristin Savage tallied four kills and four blocks and sophomore Kelsey Campeau had four digs.

The opening set feature nine ties and eight lead changes. UCLA's largest lead of the first was six at 14-8 and 15-9. Texas State went on an 8-1 run to go ahead by one at 17-16, but four of five for the Bruins on a kill by redshirt sophomore Emily Ryan, a May ace and two Bobcat errors put UCLA up by two. Texas State again came back with six of the next eight to earn a pair of set points. The first was saved on a Simo kill, while a May kill tied things at 24. The Bruins then received back-to-back blocks by May and Savage to close out the 26-24 win. May had six kills in the opener, Chang added six digs and Barry posted four digs. The Bruins out-hit the Bobcats, .179 to .143.

The lone tie of the second set was at 1-all, as the Bruins scored five of the next six on kills by Harrer and Mosser, a Ryan solo stuff and two May aces and didn't trail for the set. With the Bobcats still within three at 18-15, the Bruins recorded seven of the last 10 of the second to win it 25-18. At 22-17, a May kill and a Texas State error gave the Bruins seven set points, with a May kill on their second attempt closing out the seven-point win. May had four kills, Harrer added three and Simo posted four digs, as the Bruins out-hit the Bobcats, .360 to .200.

The Bobcats still held a two-point lead at 22-20, but the Bruins scored the next four on three May kills and a TSU error. On the second match point, May's seventh kill of the set finished off the 25-23 win. Simo added four kills and four digs, Mosser recorded four kills and Barry had four digs. The Bruins out-hit the Bobcats, .400 to .244.
