SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Freshman Emma Spitz is one of just three players to shoot under par during the first day of the Bruin Wave Invitational, as she is tied for second after 36 holes at the San Luis Obispo Country Club on Monday.

As a team, the Bruins are in third at 12-over 588. UCLA shot an 8-over 296 in round one and a 4-over 292 in round two. The Bruins are six strokes behind USC (+6, 582) and three back of Northwestern (+9, 585).

Spitz made four birdies in her opening round on No. 5, 8, 11 and 16 to go with three bogeys in a 1-under 71. In her second round, she had three birdies on No. 2, 11 and 17 and two bogeys to post another 71. Spitz is at 2-under 142, but six shots off the pace set by Northwestern's Kelly Sim (-8, 136).

Freshman Emilie Paltrinieri is tied for fifth (+1, 145). She birdied her opening hole of the day, as well as No. 6, with three bogeys for a 1-over 73. Paltrinieri overcame an opening triple bogey in her second round to post four birdies on No. 9, 10, 13 and 14 with just one other dropped shot to total an even-par 72.

Freshman Annabel Wilson, playing as an individual, is also tied for fifth (+1, 145). She shot a 2-over 74 in the morning on a pair of birdies on No. 6 and 17 and four bogeys. In round two, Wilson had three birdies (No. 11, 12 and 18) and two bogeys in a 1-under 71.

Senior Clare Legaspi is tied for 29th (+9, 153). She made a birdie on No. 15, three bogeys and a double in an opening-round, 4-over 76. Legaspi tallied a birdie on No. 10 and six bogeys in a second-round, 5-over 77. Senior Mariel Galdiano is tied for 34th (+10, 154). After shooting a 10-over 82 in the morning on six bogeys and two doubles, she was 10 shots better in the afternoon, firing an even-par 72. Galdiano made back-to-back birdies on No. 6 and 7 and closed with another on No. 18, adding a bogey and a double. Sophomore Phoebe Yue is tied for 39th (+12, 156). She shot a 4-over 76 in the morning on four bogeys and an 8-over 80 in the afternoon, recording a birdie on No. 16, four bogeys, a double and a triple. Freshman Yuki Yoshihara, playing as an individual, is tied for 50th (+15, 159). She shot a 7-over 79 in round one, making a birdie on No. 9, six bogeys and a double. Yoshihara had an 8-over 80 in round two, posting birdie on No. 7, seven bogeys and a double.

The Bruins will begin their final round on Tuesday at 8:20 a.m. off the first tee in the order of Yue, Galdiano, Legaspi, Paltrinieri and Spitz. Wilson and Yoshihara will go out in the group after the starting five at 9:10 a.m.
