Bruins Wrap Up Competition at Trojan Diving Invitational

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA diving team wrapped up their three days of competition at the Trojan Diving Invitational on Sunday at the Uytebgsu Aquatics Center on the Campus of USC. The Bruins had two athletes and two teams earn spots on the podium over the three days of competition.

On the first day of competition the Bruins had four divers compete in two different disciplines. To open the day Lauren Hallaselka, Zoe Jespersgaard, Savana Trueb, and Laura Fisher all qualified for the finals round of the 1m dive. Hallaselka and Jespersgaard finished third and fourth in qualifying while Trueb and Fisher came in sixth and sixteenth. As for the finals of the event, Hallaselka turned her third place in the preliminary rounds into a first place finish. She totaled 597.15 points across the six dives to take first and beat her nearest competitor by over six points. Jespersgaard and Trueb finished fourth and sixth, while Fisher rounded out the group in sixteenth in the event. ย

As for the second day of the invitational UCLA had athletes take part in both the 3m dive and the team event. In the 3m dive UCLA had Hallaselka, Jespersgaard, and Fisher all qualify for the finals in the event. The trio then did extremely well in finals. Hallaselka earned her second podium place in as many days when she finished in third with a score 640.75, while Jespersgaard finished fourth with a total of 601.30 points.

As for the team event the Bruins had both of their teams place in the top three on Saturday. The trio of Eden Cheng, Hallaselka and Jespersgaard took second with a total of 236.60 points, while the UCLA 'B' team of Fisher, Maya Shtolzberg and Trueb finished right behind them in third with 233.60 points. ย ย ย

To wrap up the competition the Bruins had three student-athletes take part in the platform competition on Sunday. Fisher led the group with a fifth place finish in the event, and qualified for NCAA Zones in the process.

Up Next: The UCLA swimming and diving team returns to action in the new year on January 6, 2024. The Bruins will be competing against UCSD and Wisconsin down in San Diego.
