LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA Swimming and Diving team is set to host No. 4 USC at the Spieker Aquatics Center this Friday for senior day. The Bruins and Trojans will face off at 1 p.m. PT, with live results available via the MeetMobile ($) app.
Heading into the meet the Bruins are 5-3 overall and 3-3 against Pac-12 competition, having beaten Washington State, Arizona, and Utah in conference, in addition to UC Santa Barbara and Illinois so far this season.
Additionally, the Bruins have finished in the top two at each of this season's invitationals, including a win at the Fresno State invite and a second-place performance at the Art Adamson Invitational.
Last weekend UCLA took both No. 7 Stanford and No. 5 California to the wire on consecutive days. The Bruins narrowly lost both meets, with both days coming down to the final relay to determine a winner on the day.
In last month's competition against Utah, the Bruins finished with a 190-106 win. UCLA won all but two events in the meet and swept the podium in the 100 and 200 yd. breaststroke as well as the 100-yd. butterfly.
Brooke Schaffer will continue her impressive season this weekend. She was honored with Pac-12 Swimmer of the Week in January for the first time in her career. The graduate student currently holds NCAA B cuts in two events and broke the school record in the 50m free this year. Against Utah, Schaffer won both the 100 yd. and 200 yd. freestyle events and anchored the 400-medley relay, which won the event. She also won both the 50 free and 100 free in the meet with Stanford.
UCLA divers also had a successful showing in January at the Bruin Diving Invitational. Lauren Hallaselkä won the 3-meter event and placed fifth in the 1-meter competition. The freshman was named Pac-12 Diver of the Week for her efforts. The Bruins also showed out last weekend in a quad meet against USC, Stanford and Cal. The Bruins won all two of the three events, including Eden Cheng winning the 1M dive with 277.00 points, and the platform dive with an impressive score of 327.65.
