Junior outside hitter Kristee Porter (Tyler, TX/John Tyler HS) of the UCLA Women's Volleyball Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 23-29.
Last weekend, Porter had 52 kills in eight games played, for a 6.50 average while hitting .402 (52K-13E-97TA). She also had three service aces (0.38 per-game average), 20 digs (2.50/game) and seven total blocks for a 0.88 average as UCLA won a five-game match against Oregon State and swept Oregon in three games.
On Friday night, Porter notched her NCAA-leading seventh 30-kill match of the season (30 kills vs. OSU) and now has 15 career 30-kill matches in two-plus season. No other Pac-10 player even had more than six career 30-kill matches.
The 52 kills Porter downed this weekend vaulted her from eighth place to fifth place on UCLA's career kill list with 1674. She needs just 17 kills to tie Kara Milling for fourth-place on UCLA's all-time list.
The UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week honor is Porter's third this season. She was previously selected Oct. 9-15 and Aug. 21-27. In addition, she earned two Student-Athlete of the Week honors in 1999-2000.
